Hearing that BOS and Jake DeBrusk are working on the possibility of a fresh start for the player. Told nothing is imminent at this time, but something to keep an eye on. |

How time heals old wounds... I remember a time when the canuck fateful (fans and media) hated Bure for the way he departed. Came across an SB Nation article from 2013 just before Bure was introduced into the HoF and his number raised to the rafters here in Vancouver:
Unfortunately, in the case of Bure, this second-hand experience of his play meant that my understanding of him was frequently filtered through the local media. As Tom Benjamin notes, in an epic takedown of Tony Gallagher and the mainstream media's treatment of Bure:
I don't think people who did not live through it can understand the media circus that surrounded Bure in Vancouver. Stories linking his name to Russian mafia murders? Check. Stories about his popularity in the gay community and whispers about his sexual orientation? Check. Linden and Bure were feuding? Check. Anything to put Bure on the front page and sell papers? Check.
And, of course, the media ultimately turned on Bure and helped chase him out of town. I remember intensely how miserable it was to be a Canucks fan during Bure's last few years with the team, his final season of play being the start of Mark Messier's three years reign of turmoil and his holdout season being the second of these seasons. Those were dark days for Canucks fans, with the team failing miserably on the ice, skating in front of a 2/3rds full GM Place, and playing out a soap opera off the ice. Bure was cast as part of the problem, and perhaps he was. Certainly his holdout and trade demand did not endear him to Canucks fans. Nonetheless, it seems in retrospect as though he received an unfairly rough ride from the local media.
It all sounds so familiar doesn't it? - bloatedmosquito
I still don't like the way he left. The way he was treated by the team and the way he acted and held out. However that doesn't change the fact that he was the best and most player the Canucks have ever had. and to compare Petey with him is not rational.
Petey outside of winning the Calder, to me hasn't done jack shat. I wouldn't even compare him with Petri Skriko (since they have both played on the worst 22 games to start a season Canuck teams of all time) At least Skriko hustled and tried every game, with 1/2 of the supposed talent this team has. |

Would you consider Bure a career underachiever ? It seems like her retired after not really accomplishing much, aside from scoring a buttload of highlight reel goals.

What's that?
Boeser for Debrusk and Boston 1st.
The Boston Bruins made Jake DeBrusk a healthy scratch again over the weekend, and it appears as though there is finally a split coming between the two sides. Ryan Rishaug of TSN confirmed with DeBrusk’s agent that he has requested a trade out of Boston, and Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet notes that the two are working to find him a fresh start. |

Bure, as a canuck, also achieved jack sh it except being an exciting player to watch. I guess that's why he has so many 'Most Exciting Canuck Player' awards...
Tony Tanti – 5 times (1984–88)
Pavel Bure – 5 (1992–1995, 1998)
Todd Bertuzzi – 4 (2000, 2002–2004)
Bobby Lalonde – 3 (1975–1977)
Alexandre Burrows - 3 (2008–10)
He also has 3 Cyclone Taylor Trophies and 4 Cyrus H. McLean Trophies.

In his time with the Canucks, he didn't win a Cup, no. But what he did with the squad contributed to a Hall of Fame career.
Petey has got 66 points in 1 season.
Too young to remember Lalonde play, but I would take other 4 any day over Petey. |

True, but I think the start of EPs career has been more challenging. First off, EP didn't have the benefit of Pat Quinn as his coach. PQ won the Jack Adams Award during Bure's rookie season. Second, PB didn't have to start his pro career during a pandemic. IMO Green's abilities, the pandemic, and injury have definitely had an effect on EP's performance.
I think we all need to take a deep breath, stand back, and see what a better coaching staff can do with this squad before we start tossing our best players overboard. Give the kid a chance. |

EP is a guy you build around. I would think he surpasses Henrik as the teams all time leader in points by the end of his career. Only reason he won't win a Art Ross is because he is competing with McDavid, Draisatl, Kucherov, Mackinnon every year. |

@ Bloated .
I don't think Petey's first year was a fluke. I think he put in the work, training , and desire.
I think he read the clippings in his contract year and began thinking "I'm Petey"
I don't think he put in the time or effort this year and now has to basically start over. That is why I don't think he is a quick turn around. - VANTEL
I agree, no quick turn-around but this franchise, local media, and fan base has been very patient with JB and TG even though it's obvious they don't have what it takes to be successful.
We all know that EP has the tools to be very successful but most are willing to jettison his ass because of uninspired play over two seasons; two seasons of horrific coaching, pathetic management, ownership meddling, and a pandemic.
IMO fan hate is misdirected. |
