I think the oil would be one of about 25 teams lining up for Jacob… guy is a complete stud… |

At least. That's why I don't think Yamamoto and picks gets the job done. If the Yotes can be sold on Broberg as a cheap future top pairing replacement I think the Oilers could be a good partner for the Yotes |

Either of those trade options would only compound how brutal Holland's acquisition of Keith was. They'd have Keith for another year at 5.8 mil, getting 10-12 min a night on the 3rd pairing. |

If ARI is wanting to trade Chychrun, then it's mostly because they want to free up future year's contracts. Kassian is exactly the wrong thing for them to consider. If he was a decent player, then it's still a future committment. But. he nowhere close to that. He's overpaid for an inconsistent player.
Maybe an offer of Bouchard, Hollaway, plus two 1st rounders might get the Yotes listening. Holloway hasn't played a pro game yet, so maybe that doesn't move the needle.

This just in: Chychrun is worth more than 4 1sts. Get the (frank) outta here with that |

There is some real strange opinions on this proposal. Chychrun is a 3-4 defence you want to give up a possible number 2 de-man and a possible first line winger plus draft picks for him. Good thing your not managing a team, |

As hot takes go, this isn't quite as bad as the one above, but it's really out to lunch, too |

Something about trading for the best defenseman on a bad team brings out the worst in posters, I guess |

I think a lot of people are looking at his last year and coming up with he is an amazing defenseman. I personally just dont see it.
I would only trade for him if Keith was going back the other way. Thats the only way the Oilers can make this move. I know Im dreaming but if he can add to our team (really not sure if he can as we need goaltending far more) I would do...
Broberg, Keith, and our first for him. Plus I would follow it up with Kassian and a 3rd for Evander Kane at 50% retention.
Maybe the Oilers can do something with picks and prospects to move Koskinen and Smith for a real goalie and whallah... We actually have a solid team on paper...
LOL. Its fun to dream up this BS but you know Holland could pulls off something even 1/10th this useful for the team. |

If Keith retires after this year, the Oilers get ~3.4mil cap surplus on top of the 5.5mil cap hit of Keith he'd be due as a result of cap recapture penalties. That would mean an extra 8.9mil in available cap next year. So, if that has been a plan arranged by Holland and Keith, then it could REALLY work out.
I don't trust that Holland is capable of thinking that outside the box, though, so I doubt this happens. |

More likely Keith will be looking to extend then retire.
I'm hoping, reluctantly, the Oilers use their 2022 1st to bring in E. Kane (@25% cap hit) using a third team, along with one or two other minor pieces to help. In my mind a producing physical forward, and a third line center are the biggest needs. Bottom six is the biggest issue, fix that, everything evens out, including goaltending.

Agreed on the bottom-6. That's the utmost priority, but I remain convinced that there's something about the coaching that's contributing to that. It isn't just player personnel; a number of other teams get better results with similar/less. |

Can't disagree there, coaching seems to be a growing issue. If this losing streak grows longer, I think the coaching staff is going to have to be held to account.
Are you ready for Babcock? Holland is likely to only make a move if he has secured someone with pedigree. |

This is at the other end of the spectrum. More realistic than a cap dump, a player that hasn't had a shot in 6 games and a (likely) late first rounder this year, plus another 1st. Bouchard is the only proven part of the entire deal. Is he a good D-man or just another one that can just score points?

Your blogger is saying Stromgren, Zadorov, a first, and 3 seconds. You should definitely head over there and impart your wisdom to the flaming masses.
And that is with the Yotes retaining half salary. |

I wouldnt even consider a Bouchard for Chychrun straight across deal. Bouchard is younger, is not far behind in points and has a higher upside. Why give up a higher upside for a couple years more experience. Bouchard is also a righty so has higher value because of that. |

Evander Kane is a (frank)en goof. He has the skills and physicality we need but he's been a nightmare in every locker room he's ever been in. There's a place for him in the NHL, but unless that room is overflowing with the type of leadership displayed by the Mark Messier/Chris Pronger/Scott Stevens types of days gone by, I have no idea where that is. Certainly not Edmonton.
Is there a team in the NHL that has the leadership to handle this guy? I'm out of touch with hockey so I honestly don't know, but Boston, Pitts and Washington come to mind. |
