is it culture or coaching when a guy like Ryan Hartman goes to Minn and has 26 points?

If Hayes was a 2C the Rags would have kept him, though at lower $$. Hayes is a low 40 point a year guy who scored more then 17 goals twice in his 8 yrs in the NHL and never hit 50 points..If he is any teams 2C then that team is weak down the middle....I certainly believe Couts is hurt. I agree i dont see him falling off the face of the earth just like that after signing his lifetime contract( at least I hope so) Doesnt seem like the type of guy to sign an 8 yr contract then disappear though it has happened to others - hfc355
That the Rangers decided to move on from Hayes, has no bearing on what level of player he is. Hayes at his best is a 2nd line level center in the NHL. I don't disagree that his point totals are at the low end.

Ryan Hartman on pace for a 70+ point season. Another stellar Flyers trade. |

Pretty incredible he waited three years after being traded by the Flyers to break out. |

So we can officially say that Coots is injury prone. Can't wait until he STARTS that 8 year contract next year!! Whopppppeeeee!!! He obviously had been playing hurt for awhile and yet the one game he led all forwards in ice time by 5 minutes(25 minutes that game....sorry, brain is foggy from the Holidays). Really wonder about this organization and their handling of injured players. Happy New Year!! |

Players always break out and win once they leave. Seems like it never happens the other way around. |

I think that bit has been exaggerated to the nth degree. The only two I would really count would be Sharp and Williams, but that's about it. |

Problem is he is at his best so infrequent that his best is not the norm. It's like saying Laughton at his best is a 2C. Yeah every once in awhile he plays like a 2C but those games are the exception not the norm. PS Rags were desperate for a 2C and knew Hayes was not the answer |

I’m saying this with the assumption that CF is going to be here next season because, IMO I don’t think they will remove him. I would hope that CF uses the 2nd half of the season to better the club for next year. I don’t wanna see a hard push to only fall 6 to 8 pts short of a playoff spot. What would that prove anyway? Do an extensive search for a coach and interview anyone that would be available at this time, get those candidates out of the way. I know he said he would like to evaluate a complete healthy team, well that’s not going to happen. If he’s worth anything, I’m pretty sure he has an idea who he wants to go forward with. In other words, start the rebuild now. Don’t wait until the trade deadline or seasons end, move out those he has no future plans for and get the best deals he could. Knowing of the cap implications, should be a tough go, might as well get a head start on the other clubs. Plenty of decisions to be made, let’s hope he makes good sound ones. Have a plan, please no more band-aides. |

Not arguing that there probably have been more than I care to remember. Justin Williams and Patrick Sharp come to mind. Eh what?? |

I don't disagree. I don't think there is any doubt that as Hayes ages, he's going to become an overpaid role player.

If the Flyers are going to trade veteran players at the deadline, it won't be to make the team better for next year. In terms of not waiting for the deadline. Look at the league wide cap situation. The closer you get to the deadline, the more the trade market will expand. The more teams you can get involved, the more return.

Who wouldn't but the point is that if you're getting consistently out played, outshot and out chanced. Your chances for long term success are not good.
