He's getting close to bust territory. Even if he ends up as a good 2nd pairing dman, that is a far cry from being a #1 overall pick.

You can’t teach talent or heart. Dahlin is extremely talented but does he have the heart to drive himself and the team to bigger things. It’s only my opinion but because he is so talented he’s untouchable right now. As he gains experience his confidence will bring even more of his talent out. Down the road a decision will be made on just how much load he can handle and does he have the heart and sole to lead this team to the Stanley Cup. It’s too early for that and his talent level and ceiling are way too huge for any GM to even think of moving him.

He’s been the Sabres best player for about a month now.

Lunaion brought up the concept of selling high last night (not in this context) and it got me to thinking about Dahlin and his role moving forward

Realistic list of players I’d consider for Dahlin

Quinton Byfield
Trevor Zegras
Dylan Larkin
Jack Hughes
Mitch Marner
Elias Pettersson

Not sure id definitely do it either. But it would take a player like above for me

the good news

dahlin is 15th in scoring for d men

“Dahlin is never going to be Cale Makar or Quinn Hughes. He simply doesn’t have the God-given footspeed to put him in the same category as those two”

Power, although he skates well for someone his size, is slower than Dahlin.

I’m in the camp that says keep Dahlin and Power.

Nashville had Suter, Weber, Josi, and Jones at one point and they managed with it.

Third pairing won’t have to play much, let’s put it that way

It obviously would come at a time where we could sign before trade

I don’t want to trade Dahlin at all right now.

Those would be the names that would make me consider

You'd certainly have to consider it.

What if Wright falls to 2 and you have an offer for Dahlin and 30oa?

I'd second this.

No, Dahlin doesn't have that footspeed that Makar, Hughes, etc have, but (for me) he IS going to "get it" at some point, and become a helluva Dman. The Sabres have the makings of a real nice, strong D corps, moving forward.

It's all about being somewhat patient. Power is going to struggle. Johnson is going to struggle. Samuelsson is going to struggle. They ALL struggle.

However, given that they do seem to have a nice mix of young guys coming (Power, Johnson, Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Novikov, and maybe Fitzgerald/Bryson turn into a decent bottom pairing), maybe they CAN afford to trade Dahlin if they have the opportunity to add a difference-making forward.

I agree with this reasoning.

For me, I don’t think about trading Dahlin before we know that all of those aforementioned guys are formidable d-men.
