NHL would only kill a deal if it circumvented the Cap.
Otherwise they don't care how good or stupid a deal may be, see the Vegas Fleury trade. |

That's not stopping a franchise from making a "bad" trade. That's just rejecting a contract that circumvents the rules qhich we all know the league can do. So still waiting for an actual example... |

In the same way they should have stopped the Sens from trading Mark Stone?
Enough with this team. Move them to Houston or KC or Portland already. (I really want them to go to Quebec but we all know that isn't happening. Just like the return of the Expos) |

This article proves how big of an idiot you are eklund. Chychrun has not played a full season. He’s a good defenseman but game changing, no. The Coyotes would only be trading him for a top prospect, a good roster player and a 1st rounder. The coyotes have a few solid top defensive prospects already. Someone like Lundell would instantly be one of the best center prospects in franchise history. If you think they’re moving because of smart rebuilding, log off the internet, sell the hockeybuzz domain to someone who actually knows this sport and keep your mouth shut for a few years. bumhole. - jmichael7753
i think we've known this for years, people just like to get their frustration out anonymously on the internet to poop on a website that hasn't been updated since AOL dialup |

Charlie Finley, when he was the A's owner sold Vida Blue to the Yankees and Rollie Fingers/Joe Rudi to the Red Sox and Bowie Kuhn killed those deals. |

Bettman is by far the best hockey mind in hockey. Glad he over sees all hockey trades. Jeez too bad he allowed the hall/larrson trade to go through. |

Ok. But Ek is saying that if the NHL thinks a trade will doom a franchise they intervene to stop it. Examples? - HockeyBuzzed
No, I couldn’t think of any. Only brought up the Lindros thing because it technically happened, but the league had no choice. They had to void one of the deals.
It was an anomaly
Rejecting a trade for the reasons suggested won’t happen. No, sir. |

Bettman is a lawyer who knows very little about hockey. Bettman was part of David Stern’s legal team. The NHL never had a lockout until Bettman came on the scene and now there have been 3 lockouts. He owns those. Bettman seems to have a fixation with keeping the Yotes in AZ. That seems to be the basis for the blogger suggesting that Bettman intervene in a Chychrun. More likely, the people that control the money are telling Bettman that they want that market so winning and viability are taking a backseat to that. |

Sorry Arizona, but why is hockey even there? Put it in Quebec City, Hartford, Houston - heck even Saskatoon would A LOT better |

You know the magic words they want to hear. Luxury boxes. Who’s got em?
Quebec City could support them. Seems like robbing Peter to pay Paul, though. Chances are their inhabitants have a team they already follow. You’re just moving fans around instead of creating new ones. Same with Hamilton. Still, could work.
Houston? Hm. They certainly have the population, but then again, so does Phoenix.
Portland, OR? Might work. Kansas City, too. Decent Metro areas. Portland already has an arena, and KC was willing to build one for the Penguins before they became revitalized. I can’t speak for Saskatoon, so I won’t.
Hartford. We’re not going to put them in a shopping mall again, are we? |

From The Hockey news in 2010: Sources say there was a deal in place last June to trade Lecavalier to the Montreal Canadiens for goalie Carey Price, center Tomas Plekanec and a prospect, but the deal was blocked by Bettman after Barrie refused to approve the deal.

Heck, move em to Johnstown, PA (population about the same as a full hockey arena), rename them the Chiefs, and keep the ownership a mystery to everyone. |

that is one of the dumbest things i've read on this page, which says something. if the coyotes management feels it is in their best interest to move one solid asset for more to build around, that's up to them. who knows, maybe chychrun has let them know he would prefer a trade. who whouldnt? if they can move him for 2 young players on entry level deals, take back a veteran with salary and another top pick, that isnt a bad way to continue a rebuild. |

However….if he is getting moved look to Boston, Florida, Toronto, the Rangers and the Islanders…I have heard at least two of those teams are far down this exploratory path already.. - Eklund
I'm curious how this would occur in the roomer world.
Did a source phone you and say that he knew of two teams that have made serious inquiries, but would only give you the names of five teams, to protect his anonymity?
