It is up to Giroux but if I'm the Flyers - I really don't want this to turn into another Tavares/Sundin situation where the Flyers can't / won't re-sign him and fail to get anything for him.

If he says he doesn't want to be moved than you pay hardball with him.

my thinking is Z would be here and travis will be gone, but we shall see.
- bradster

Iā€™d be in favor of this. My question becomes, what does Sanheim offer? What does Sanheim do so well while Ristolainen sees a dose of getting pooped on. We know what Risto is and I happen to agree that he brings an element we were desperately missing last year but what does Sanheim bring to the table that we would miss if we moved him?

Yep. Iā€™m all for him staying at the right price but if you move him, the return needs to fit the Flyers needs

And how does hardball work??? What do you tell him he cant eat from the teams buffet?? If he doesnt want to move, which is a strong possibility, there is nothing Flyers can do.

There is nothing they can do in terms of moving him correct.

If says he wants to stay then you tell him you are going in another direction. Will reduce his playing time. Maybe get some games off as you want to look at other players. There are things you can employ. It is a business and needs to be treated as such.

A handful of teams after this season will still have their window open, only 1 of them will win the cup.

All teams will look really remake their rosters next season, Some more and some less.

Take the pens and Bruins, if they canā€™t put a run together this season they will have big decisions to make.

Well they can choose not to resign him and gain nothing but realistically the Flyers donā€™t have much beyond Giroux in terms of pure talent. I donā€™t know what play hardball means in this situation is either.

And that's playing hardball.??..he still gets paid...you make your team weaker...and you show potential UFAs that this is how you treat your players. No I dont think so. He says he doesnt want to move you do nothing but decide if you want to keep him and if so at what price . You treat him with respect and honor his wishes

1, yes he gets paid regardless. It is sunk cost. Think he would like being a healthy scratch.

2. make your team weaker lol...who gives a phuck they stink as is constructed.

3. What free agents? The mid level ones the flyers almost over pay? Or the ones on league min deals looking to extend their career? UFA follow the money for the most part.

4. flyers need to do what is best for the flyer not what is best for Claude Giroux.

Well if they want to resign him then naturally it is all moot.

Giroux isnā€™t Bobby Clarke but if Giroux brought us a Cup, heā€™d be the second coming. Giroux is a player this organization isnā€™t going to disrespect or ā€œplay hardballā€ with.

Yes Flyers have to do what's best for the franchise and that's to move Giroux at the deadline if he agrees. The rest of your statements are nonsensical.

Totally agree...nothing to be gained by disrespecting him if he refuses to be traded. Like him or not he has been a very good player here for 10+ yrs ( and I am one who is not a real big fan of his)

Heā€™s been our best player along time but there has always been someone else more to my liking in all his time here. I was a much bigger Wayne Simmonds fan. Brayden Schenn. Chris Pronger. Danny Briere. I like Ivan Provorov more than Giroux. This doesnā€™t mean Iā€™m not proud to have Giroux. I consider him to be among the elite of captains today in the NHL.

Trading Giroux at the deadline, if he agrees to go, we all agree to. Mistreating and disrespecting him if he doesnt agree to be traded is petty and childish not what a smart business owner would do.

They will not play hardball with him.
They should not play hard ball with him.
It would be a further embarrassment to this organization if they ever decided to force his hand, for a season thatā€™s been exactly that.
The guys been the face of the franchise, itā€™s leader, itā€™s captain, has shown up for more then a decade and left it all on the ice.
You let him decide if thatā€™s what he wants. Itā€™s his callā€¦heā€™s earned it.

Completely agree. He could have end up agreeing to stay on a team friendly deal. Who knows.

Why are you blaming Sanheim on that?
- MJL

Didnā€™t blame him for the goal but heā€™s not helping laying on the ice like an idiot
