If you’re stuck with a mediocre cap ceiling team then yes, you kinda have to blow it up and keep whichever 26 and younger players you like
Better than getting emotionally attached to mediocrity - Nucker101
Yup, which is what the Canucks currently are, at best. |

I could see a scenario like this happening. If the Canucks don't think the playoffs are reachable by TDL, they ask Miller if he would be interested in resigning. Miller doesn't give positive feed back on it. Canucks decide to get assets back for long term and suffer the season for the high 1st rounder they will get. - boonerbuck
I think they will keep him this year and ask him if he is interested in leading this team . The answer will probably be no and then you move him. It gives the team another year under new regime to wheel and deal.
I don't think the Canucks will get back a top young center in a trade . I think Canucks need to draft one this year with their first round pick . It is the position we desperately need and even more so if both Bo and Miller or one of them are on the way out .
I really think the forward group is the biggest problem of this team. No speed or toughness.

If the Canucks were SJ maybe. Playing as well as they can and worst prospect pool in the league. - manvanfan

Nobody remembers Florida 3 years ago being a mid .500 team. Missing playoffs 3 straight years. Now the talk of the NHL.
Drafted 15, 13, 12 during those 3 years where they missed the playoffs.
Being mediocre doesn't seem like such a bad things now when you compare it to them. |

I'm with you to sell off a few extra pieces.
If it was any other year most would be pumping the player progression of young players but since it's not happening.

Huberdeau will be 29 in June.
Ekblad 26 in a week.
Barkov is 26.
Weegar is 28. 24 years old before he started to play a full season. Just like Devon Toews.

I get all the reasoning but you also have to understand that once they are gone you are going to have a pretty sh1t product. You will be stepping back and are pretty well are starting over.
You will be left with an overpaid soft top line with very little to follow up in the roster.
Miller is not the first player I would move it would be Pearson Motte Dikie and maybe Poolman . Yes I know it is just clearing space . I just would not pay any more for Boeser this year than what he is currently making so he is the first big name I would move out. - VANTEL
Better to have a shot product next year and better the year after, than a good product next year and a sh1t one after. |

Who was drafted 12 spots behind Huberdeau. JT MILLER.
So I guess it's okay for them to be mediocre just not the Canucks. |

EP has more goals/points 4 seasons in than Barkov 4 seasons in.
Huberdeau didn't sniff ppg until his 7th season. We have nothing as good now, but Hoglanders career is starting very similar
Not saying either get that good, but comparisons are used for everything, we don't know what Podk will be like in 2 years either.
Hughes at 22 is better than either of those two at 22, we just need to get him a top end partner. |

Because our young talent will be better the season after than they are next season. Do you really prefer us to be a playoff team next year and keep Miller, then lose him for nothing? We would instantly regress the year after, and you will be the first one saying we should have sold high on Miller this TDL.
Only way keeping Miller makes sense is if he re-signs or we trade him next TDL no matter what. If(likely when) we are in the playoff hunt next season, do you think they trade him? |

Plucking 24 year old Carter Verhaeghe for 2 years at 1M and have him start scoring top 6 out of nowhere.
Forsling off waivers.
Trading for 34 year old Patric Hornqvist
Weird how after missing the playoffs for 3 years, these are the things they did and not sell their best players. |

You must have a good crystal ball. You just said it took Huberdeau 7 years but Hoglander will do it in 3 ?
I don't know for sure Miller would walk , do you have a source to back up your certainty?
