Trading G, Braun and Risto for future improvement would be a smart use of resources, but if it results in additional losses this year can be thought of tanking, and so what? I wouldn't want to debate a Sixers style "process" but gutting this team and starting over seems a foregone conclusion. If you watched the Canes Pens game you saw how beautiful the game can be when played at a high level. I want to see that returned to this city

Again, that shows the lack of real leadership on this team. So your next captain is gonna be a reclusive introvert. Atkinson would probably be better, but they probably would be reluctant to go in that direction cause he's only been here for 5 minutes.

That is not tanking in any manner.

Probably, but it also wouldn’t shock me if it’s Atkinson.

Hopefully not Nate Tombstone who got 12-14 minutes! Icetime by AV

Ok, maybe he isn't reclusive, but he sure seems like an introvert.

The captaincy is an empty title what part dont you understand about that? There are several ways to lead. Giroux leads by example. There are other leaders in every locker room and they all speak up when needed. The C just puts a face to the leadership group

In my fairly small (25 odd years) of watching Hockey live, the aesthetics now are probably the highest I have seen. I am not sure if any Flyers team played such beautiful hockey by the way, at least in that same time span.

Other than envy the style, I can only but envy the organizational alchemy of the Canes. Other than the success of their low cost new faces (DeAngelo, Bear), and the successful goalie replacement, now Kotkaniemi has started to heat up after a disappointing start. I checked a few days ago and I think he was 13 points in 15 games or something close , in very limited minutes. There is a certain cockiness in that organization, from their Twitter feed to the way they compose their roster, and so far, who is to argue with them?

Exactly who is the leadership group on this team. I'm well aware that the actual captaincy isn't a big deal, but this team has no veteran leaders outside of Giroux. Coots? Come on!! Hayes? No way! JVR? That's a laugh! Atkinson maybe, but he just got here. Ellis? Is he even here or is it just a rumor? Laughts? I dunno......

Since the days of Matt Read, if you watch players on the the bench who have made a mistake on the the ice, they aren’t looking to see if their mistake pissed off Giroux. They’re looking to see if a pissed off Couts is glaring at them. That’s who the leader is.

While it's true that many players can be leaders. The captain in hockey is not an empty title. It seems as though you don't understand. A Captain gets leeway on the ice from officials and is allowed to officially talk about plays, missed calls, etc. They also get explanations from officials to take back to coaches. Captains also have numerous behind the scenes responsibilities on a team that are not just related to leadership.

I know that but that is negligible. You dont necessarily need a Captain for that. Coaches often have those talks with officials.

While I would agree that too much value is often placed on the role of captain on a team. It's not an empty title.

They didn’t look good but in fairness they had 5 straight wins under their new coach and it was their 5th game in 7 nights.

It looks like they made a gutsy good move getting Tony D. I think the Rangers overreacted by letting him go. Yes he’s a jerk and immature but he’s an extremely talented offensive defenseman. Bear started the year on the 1st pair and last week against the Wild he was on the 3rd pair and looked to be struggling. Bear has skill but looks like his confidence isn’t there.KK has looked good lately but they’re going to have to do something with that terrible contract.

Seven teams made 1st round pick offers for Ristolainen last offseason, and the Flyers' pick was the highest 1st rounder of the batch. Additionally, Buffalo refused to eat any salary on Ristolainen, although they were willing to take back some salary in return.

Whether the Flyers can get a conditional 1st rounder for Ristolainen as a rental for a few months is iffy. But they can certainly get a 2nd round pick for him.
