That's an interesting thought and it occurred to me also but I suspect they think Newhook is close enough to being able to fill 2C that they'd rather spend the money on the other UFA's aside from Kadri - Nichushkin, Burakovsky and Kuemper. Especially since Nichushkin and Burakovsky are also on that 2nd line.

Kadri is a lost cause - there's no way he'd take a discount deep enough. It's the only time in my sports watching career I'll be happy for someone on my team walking away with nothing in return. He's going to get a huge payday, I just hope it's out of the conference or at least out of the division - he'd be just about perfect on a team like LA.

Of the UFA's aside from him I'd put the money into Kuemper and Nichushkin.

The Avs removed a player from LTIR today (Stefan Matteau) and expect to remove their other player on LTIR (Jacob MacDonald) almost any day. Sakic said publicly almost two weeks ago that if they add anyone at the deadline it will be dollar in for dollar out even if that means including a third team to retain salary.

Beyond all of that I'm not sure why this would be in response to someone joking (I think) about the Avs trading for someone making the league minimum - 750K. Maybe you're kidding also, I have a difficult time figuring that out lately.

Trade the russian for the swedes.

Unfortunately, the Avs wouldn't go for that deal as they have a stacked blue line....

If MacKinnon was aiming for the player who skated away to MacKinnon's right why did he swing his stick to the left while he was looking to his left where the official was? As a professional hockey player with excellent aim and hand-eye coordination, it appears that he hit his mark.
