Possible deals:
GM Chevy has a decision to make - to we proceed one more year in the quest for success as is - or do we wheel and deal. I am going to proceed as though we are dealing for the futre.
As I said previously only untouchables I see are
F - Connor, Ehlers, Perfetti, PLD, Lucius and Wheeler (NMC)
D - JoMo (probably)
G - Hellebuyck
So we go:
1. Scheifele & Vesalainen to Florida for A. Lundell, a 2023 1st and Vatrano (salary dump)
2. A. Copp and J Kovacavic to NYR for F. Chytil and B. Schneider
3. N. Pionk to Phil for T. Konecny (summer?)
4. N. Schmidt & D. Chisholm to Wash for H. Lapierre, C, V, Iorio, RD & Jets 2nd pick this year
5. P. Stastny for a 2nd
I don't have B. Dillon listed as I want to keep him to protect the kids - but really feel he might get dealt. If so for a 1st!
That's it - although I explore trading D. DeMelo and the rights to prospect N. Smith (if it looks like he won't sign) in an attempt to upgrade our RD
Now we let our new coach, Barry Trotz rule the roost! (or Joel Quenneville, Mike Babcock or Luke Richardson) - grahamzky
All these trades make no sense for the teams trading with the Jets! |

One trade that makes sense is:
To WPG: Kappo Kakko
To NYR: Andrew Copp, 2022 3rd round pick |

I also think that Heinola is the next Sami Niku. |

Actually Chychrun is signed for three more years at $4.6. Would be great to get him even though he is LH. Doubt it will happen though as think we would get outbid by cup contender - probably Leafs.
Schmidt has a good contract, but not a favorite of mine. Don't ever think we will win The Cup with him as 2nd pairing. However, new coach, new system - and who knows?
But to improve the D we need to deal for upgrades. Your top FA's are going to look towards the sunny south/big markets. - grahamzky
Can't believe anyone still thinks the defense is the problem, this team can't score especially at even strength, they need more forwards who can score a freaking goal. |

Unless a friendly extension is in place for Copp, I dont see this happening. Kappo, though he has struggles on paper, he is a afnatastic two way winger that is quite valuable to the Rangers.
Schneider is basically untouchable, but the do have lots of apples to be picked from the tree. I have a piece almost ready, will be out tomorrow, but I explore a lot of Copp otions, including what a deal to the Rangers could look like. Look out for that tomorrow afternoon

And Stanley the next Sergie Bautin |

And Stanley the next Sergie Bautin - Ross77
I disagree with you, however you could very well be right! If both turn out to be true, then there goes the idea that Chevy is this masterful drafter……
See what I did there |

I will consider that from whence it come. You're entitled to your opinion, for sure. |

Yea, believe you're right in that we could use more goals. We really miss Ehlers, not only for the goals, but the excitement he brings.
But you're ok with the present Jets defence core? |

Possible. You ask for Kakko, I would try and pry Lafreniere (if not Schneider) out - and in reality the Rangers probably offer Kravstov (spelling?) if anyone.
With world situation and Kravstov's threats to go play in the KHL, not sure how I feel about that.

Ehlers is one of if not the most productive player at even strength this team has, he's sorely missed from every aspect including as you say the entertainment factor he brings. Last seasons long losing streak at the end of the season coincided with Ehlers injury, that wasn't a coincidence.
While its not perfect yeah I'm okay with the Jets defense, its just really not the issue it was the last two seasons and not something Dayoff should waste much focus on.
In fact I was of the opinion that acquiring both Schmidt and Dillon was a waste when they had many D prospects knocking on the door and there was clear scoring issues and question marks in the top and bottom six, acquiring just one top 4 dman and then adding to the forwards would of been WAY better and was what he should've done. Chevy "only needs to fix the D" as was the narrative while doing nothing to add any offense to the top and bottom six were his mistakes of the offseason and I was calling it out then, I'm really not at all surprised to see them struggling to score like they are.
As I said the Jets biggest issue is its lack of scoring, he needs to address that more then anything else, he needs to bring in at least one more top 6 forward and completely overhaul the bottom six, if the Jets were getting average offensive contributions from their bottom two lines they're probably in the playoffs right now but our 3rd line produces at best like a 4th line and our 4th line barely plays and contributes little on the scoresheet.
Secondary scoring has been killing this team for years, fixing that would solve a lot of issues this team has. |

Granted Niku is older but just from their stat totals Sami is having a much better season then Heinola.
