Rumors of a big Risto offer coming at the same time as rumors of a Petry trade under contract for about the same amount AAV but 35 this year…it equals heartburn. - NC Flyers Fan

Fletcher stated it at his last presser, they acquired Risto with the intention on signing him to a new contract. - jd250
Guess Fletcher can't get out of his own way. |

Its likely why Fletcher is looking at Petry. Ristolainen will not be back so now its about a replacement.
Petry to me does fit what we need. In the event that Ellis is hurt He's a guy who can step up in that top pair role. Ristolainen doesnt fit that. He isnt capable of that. Its Petry's age that is a concern. Its a short term solution plus the cost to acquire him. Not sure if MTL cap situation will impact their negotiating position

So they best they can do is possibly Petry? Which in turn means giving more picks/players.
Petry is the kind of guy teams acquire when you are 2 or 3 pieces away.

This is the first I’m hearing about a mid season change in cap hit. When does that happen? - hereticpride
I cant recall the exact equation but when it comes to trading UFA rental players the cap hit the receiving team gets is based on how many days left in the season and how much he makes per day.
The salary cap is more complex then shown. That is why you see a lot of fancy maneuvering with guys being sent down temporarily ect. I dont understand how it works but they are essentially increasing their deadline day cap space. From what I understand the cap is a daily thing not really a yearly thing. It is just shown as yearly for simplicity sake.

Oh he is absolutely perfect for the Flyers. A 34 year old player with 3 more years after this year at a cap hit of 6.25M. What quality future assets can we give up for him?

Well Dave Scot thinks thats where we are
Depends on the picks. I really dont care about any picks below a 2nd. Also will depend on what Fletcher does in the offseason. From what I heard the Ellis deal was actually in place/discussed around the deadline. So who knows what other future deals have already been set up. He might have agreements for deals with other teams lined up for the offseason already. |

There are certainly complex elements to the cap but what you're talking about is not complex at all. First of all there is a difference between cap hit and cap charge.
The formula is simple. Cap hit/days of the season X days left in the season. When taking on a player with future years, you also have to have the tagging space available.

NHL picks are overrated. Still cant just give them or prospects away for guys like Petry
seeing where the flyers are at currently.

He waived a while ago imo. That interview he did with Taryn a week or two ago he was saying how anxious he’s been about it. He knows a trade is coming. - hereticpride
Highly doubt it, he most likely stated he wants the 1000th as a Flyer. No reason not to, it’s still weeks before the deadline. I’m sure it is weighing on him, he’s only played for one organization. The toffoli trade is clearly an outlier, most teams wait until closer to the deadline anyways. |

I swear to god if they flip Risto for a 34 year old with 3 years left instead of getting picks this franchise will dead last in the league within the next two years and probably for the foreseeable future. |

Sure, but it appears they are trying to keep up JVR’s trade value.

The Flyers next 2nd round pick will be in 2024. Having the one from this year would've been nice as it's going to be the equivalent of a low 1st. |

Ok. To be more precise, this year's 2nd round pick would be especially valuable since it will be a high 2nd round pick, possibly the first pick outside the 1st round. |

That would be 2023 draft. If Fletcher is after picks, thats the year to get them. 2023 draft has been compared to the Richards/Carter draft. Lot of good prospects in the 1st two rounds |

whatever "value" JVR has, do you really think that will change in any way i nthe next few weeks?
Then why not put him with the 2 best players then according to your logic?

Unless I'm mistaken the 2024 draft.
2022 2nd - Given up for the Ghost trade
2023 2nd - Given up in the Risto trade
Edit - All the picks for getting rid of Ghost are from the upcoming draft |
