It has been mediocre at best for 37+ years. Those in bold all high rd picks so they should have some "developmental" success as a more polished product.
what is the track record in rounds 2 + in drafting and devlopment?
On a side note Clarke was putrid his first time around when it came to drafting. Some horrible drafts. - hello it's me 2050
Post 1st round draft/development since 1985 is certainly not pretty.
Under Clarke, 1st stint
Gord Murphy 9th round 85 and Murray Baron 8th round 86 were very good choices.
Farwell had the most success at later round picks, between 1990 and 93, he drafted
Renberg
Chris Therien
Dmitri Yushkevich
Vaclav Prospal
That’s a pretty good haul
Clarke’s 2nd stint had a few, not counting Roman Cechmanek who was technically a draft pick, but in reality a veteran. However many were dealt before reaching their potential
Niittymaki
Patrick Sharp
Dennis Seidenberg
Still, over the course of 13 drafts, it’s a pitiful number.
Next Holmgren who at least was better than Clarke
Patrick Maroon-never developed here but he was drafted in 2007 and is still in the league
Nick Cousins 3rd 2011
Ghost 3rd 2012
Lindblom 5th 2014
Hart 2nd 2016
Allison and Lacyzinski might still make it both have potential and you can say the same about 2017 2nd Ratcliffe
When it comes to post 1st round picks 3-5 years of development is not uncommon so you really can’t judge 2018 and beyond, but, all in all, the 37 year record is not good. Looking back, when it comes to just the draft, Farwell was probably the best of the bunch though he struck out with both 92 firsts. In his defense though, 1992 wasn’t a strong class

but but he wont be a rental he will sign an ext...... - hello it's me 2050[/quote
Possibly if they can’t afford Kadri. But even then, they see Newhook as a 2C sooner rather than later. So it has to make sense and giving up too much doesn’t make sense.

I’m just reading about LW draft prospect Ivan Miroshnichenko being diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Basically everyone had this kid going top 10 and quite a few mocks had him going to the Flyers with the 7th or 8th pick. Terrible.
The type he has is the most common and curable so it will be really interesting to see where a talent this high ends up getting drafted. He’s got the Russia factor playing into things as well with everything going on in the world too. Crazy. - hereticpride
I think the Russian factor is more concerning then the lymphoma issue. As someone with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma it is very treatable in most cases and Hodgkins is cureable. |

Though Bowen was a clear case of messing up development. imo.
You forgot Dan Kordic with Farwell!!! |

95 and 96 were ok in the 1st
Boucher and Zubrus were solid picks at their draft position. |

That's the difference between you and I. I look at things from an informed point of view. You just hope. In order to get back into contention, you have to have actually been in contention at some recent point. Maybe if Fletcher tells Sakic or Zito that he's in a an "aggressive retool". Well then they might say well in that case here is Lundell or Newhook LOL. The question is really what is maximizing the asset. The reason why it's likely that you're going to be disappointed is because you have badly misread the market and you won't move off of that no matter what anyone tells you. If Fletcher gets a 1st and a decent prospect for Giroux, he will have done well.
By the way, you're also incorrect in saying that Giroux is their best asset. - MJL
You're right, I'm never informed. Oh .. wait, I just read this today about Landeskog:
The Avs announced Saturday that Landeskog, their captain and outstanding left winger, will have knee surgery Monday and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Colorado coach Jared Bednar said there was no timeline for Landeskog’s return, and that “hopefully” he would be available for the stretch run. “We’ll know more after the surgery.”
Does this sound hopeful to you? If you are Sakic are you willing to watch another season go up in smoke for your team because a major piece may not be able to come back? There is blood in the water and when that happens, Sharks coming cruising. Whether you want to believe it or not, the price for Giroux just went up big time and if Sakic wants him, he is going to have to pay through the nose to get him, especially if G signs an extension. |

is it possible neither CC or the team want an extension? - hello it's me 2050
Nope and here's why. Fletcher just yesterday during an in-game interview stated he is speaking with Giroux's agent 4 times per week. Think about this for a moment. Why would Fletcher need to speak with Giroux's agent 4 times per week when supposedly Giroux's agent has already given him a list of teams Giroux is willing to be traded to? What could they be talking about? You would think Giroux' agent gives Fletcher the list of teams and Fletcher trades Giroux to one of those teams and informs the agent when the deal is done, right? There is no logical reason to be speaking with Giroux's agent 4 times per week ... UNLESS ... Giroux's agent is in the process of working out an extension with one or more teams on the list and Fletcher is checking in because he needs to know when that is done so he can move forward and make the trade. |

Colorado has no 1st or 2nd rd pick in the upcoming draft.
Florida has no 1st or 2nd rd pick in the upcoming draft.
If Giroux is going to either team, you will have to be more creative in a return package to Philly. - Captain_Ahab
Doesnt matter, they can trade future 1st round picks. Doesnt need to be 2022. Flyers want 2023 anyways

Yea like it matters if it’s 2022 or 2023. It’s a first round pick, whoever they choose will most likely take a few years to play anyways. It’ll be a pick around 24+ |

You have no clue how ridiculous your post here is do you? The Landeskog injury is not going to make Sakic give up Newhook. Season going up in smoke.
The Landeskog injury is old news. |

You say that like it’s a good thing/guarantee to get a can’t miss player in the draft. It’s neither. It’s an embarrassment. |
