I went to the game last night and it was a good one, Palmieri is back in form and Lee is producing again. I don't think we are going to see an exodus at the deadline maybe Chara or Parise but they are playing more like the team we thought they would be. FYI the arena is fantastic what an amazing job they did |

But they can't wait 3/4 of the season to finally get on track every year. This team needs to get younger and faster. |

Islanders could win the next 10 in a row and still not be anywhere near the playoff hunt. Literally have to win 22 or 23 of their final 26 to make it... they should definetely sell anyone that is a UFA or they can get something worthwhile that is a guy over 30 years old. My guess is Chara, Varly, Cal, Bailey, Parise, and Greene are all very available. |

Chara is still terrible ..by the way. if I hear Brendan say.. "Chara couldn't catch up with it..." one more time.
They need to keep Varly right up until the deadline b/c we have so many games in a short time but he sounds like He's gone. |

I think a few played through injuries and the covid debacle killed them too. Just not sure they are that far off from competing again with a retool |

I agree there won't be a fire sale. I think Lou may look to extend some guys who are UFAs like Clutterbuck or Parise, if they agree to team-friendly deals. However, if not, then he may look to pick up draft picks for some of these guys.
I also think he will listen to offers for some of the non-UFA guys like Bailey or Varly. I have no idea what either of them would fetch in the way of draft picks. Maybe a 2nd for Varly? A 3rd for Bailey? Just guessing......

The only way they should be moving Varly at the deadline is if someone wants to grossly overpay. Much of the speculation is that it'll be a buyer's market for goaltenders this year and I don't see much value in selling Varly for a pair of middle-round picks. If someone like Toronto or Vegas gets desperate and wants to pony up a 1st and a good prospect (or some package of equivalent value) than that's a different story, but I don't foresee that happening. |

Yea would have to be a big pay for him and I could see Parise leaving and then returning next year on a league minimum. I can see Chara being shipped off to a team for grit in the playoffs too |

Goaltenders rarely garner 1st round picks at the trade deadline, let alone 1st round picks plus prospects. Maybe because he has a year remaining on his contract, so he's not just a rental, he gets a first round pick in return, but I doubt anyone would throw in a prospect, too. I like Varly and wouldn't want to give him away too cheaply, but I think for a first you have to consider it. Plus it frees up cap space. |

I don't expect him to move or anyone to pay that kind of price. He's back to form recently and they're under no real pressure to trade him.
I'd be surprised if Bailey went at the deadline as well. If they do look to move him, that one feels like an off-season deal to me. |

Parise ans Chara are my bets and that's it. Clutterbuck is still good on that 4th line, Martin eh |

Martin's year has been entirely disappointing.
I see no reason why they can't/won't trade Clutter either. He could arguably fetch the best return of the pending UFA's and, if they want him next year, his roots are deep here and I'd say there'd be a better-than-not chance that he'd happily re-sign. And if they're not interested in his services for next year and beyond...it'd be dumb not to trade him. |

Yea and he's really a playoff type of guy on the pk and hits everything in sight. I think he would come back here too |

I'm not saying they need to completely retool and start from scratch. Just getting a little younger and faster with a few players is all. |

I would rather they sign Clutterbuck at a price around Martin/Casey for a couple of years, but if they don't sign him I would move him for sure...
Varly will get moved for something better than we think Lou can get.. especially if he keeps playing well and teams keep struggling in net. |

Oh yea greene and Chara help right away but I like Parise a lot. I actually think adding 1 top.line guy will really help balance the forwards out a ton |

Every year IHM? The last 3 years they were in the mix during the whole season. This year, the long road trip, Covid ( NHL (frank)ing ) and injuries certainly put the Islanders behind the eight ball and it hampered their ability to get on track imho.
Team looks like a different team now than in the beginning of the year without a doubt. Palms had definitely recovered from his nagging injury and Lee has gained the confidence in his knee and looks like himself as well. I don’t think there will be a huge shakeup to the team except as Upstate said, Chara, Parise and Cal but I think the majority of this team will stay intact. |

Parise at the league minimum in my mind is a no brainer. The guy is so effective on the fire check. Guy works his ass off every shift. |
