Ok.
A decent game, but I think Jets fans would agree it wasn't so much Ottawa winning that game as it was Winni losing it.
I like MDZ and Hamonic together. lets make that a permanent pair right into next year. Two veterans who know what they're doing. One a puck mover with some offensive upside, the other a more stay-at-home with some size.
The issue with Melnyk from my sources was that he began pounding his new liver the same way he pounded the old one. - Octavarium
Yes, maybe. Not an easy situation for anyone. Not something that requires too much comment.

Tierney - Let him go to UFA
Gambrell - Let him go to UFA
Ennis - 1 year 900K or let go (I'm good either way)
Gaudette - like to keep 2 way
Joseph - sign 1 year @1.25M
Colin White - I like the guy. Not worth 4.75m but I think if his cap hit was 1m lower, we wouldn't talk about him much. He has 7 points in 14 games this season. I would really watch his game the remaining of the season
Erik Brannstrom - trade him!
Michael Del Zotto - let him go!
Dylan Heatherington - see above
Nikita Zaitsev - please shred this contact or trade for anything
Formenton - 2 years @2.75M
Norris - 8 years $ 61 m deal is fair. No way he should get more than Suzuki - AlfieisKing
Agree on most, but I just don't see Gaudette taking a 2 way deal....I think when you have a team like Seattle that's going to need fill out their roster, guys like Gaudette will get a 1 way deal. If White was making 3 mil it would be a different convo for sure. But great post my friend! |

I hope not. Unless the deal is fair (and that is dependent on $ coming back as well as the value on the ice) - AlfieisKing
Well that's just it. Time will tell this summer. |

Glad you said it about Melnyk, I didn't want to be the one too. But I knew it was ok to put it out there saying transplant complications without getting into specifics. His daughter is being groomed rather quickly in all roles I'm told.
Lets see how that pairing does over the last quarter of the season, but Hamonic was a +1, 3SOG, 3BS, 3 Hits....solid game.

Colin White is liked by everyone. He is a really nice guy. He works hard. The criticism that you hear is that he does not have a strong hockey IQ. He is inconsistent and it is hard for his line mates to read him. He seems to have difficulty reading his own line mates and he has been unable to develop a chemistry with other players.
I thought he looked pretty good last night. Nobody is easier to read than Brady. He is going to bring the puck to the net. Maybe this is the good fit for White that everyone has been looking to create.

You are 100% correct on White plus DJ absolutely hates him. I was told the players were furious with DJ after White's 1st game back, that DJ went after him in his presser. Then the next game DJ tried to praise White but it didn't come off as sincere and I know for a fact it really pissed off many in that locker room. Like you said, the guys really like him, he might be the most liked in that locker room. I've had some great interactions with White over the years, he's been super to my kids too. Great person. But yes the hockey IQ is lacking, last night Hamonic was in the slot, stick wound up waiting for the puck and White just continued along the boards, completely didn't do a shoulder check or look up to see that Hamonic had pinched.

As a bettor, I didnt see this Sens win coming from a mile away. Nice job by Ottawa last night. But bigger letdown by Winnipeg, just such an inconsistent team. The coaching change from within shows you it normally doesn't work. |

Tierney - Give him a double double put him in a confy seat for the rest of the season and let him go
Gaudette and Gambrell- Release them no upside of them versus younger player in the system see Kastelic and Greig
Colin White - Trade him not that he is not a nhler but rather paid too much and presently 3rd on the rw chart and need to make room for a top 6 FWD
Michael Del Zotto - Look at what he does for the rest of the season to see if it is worth keeping him as a 7th D
Dylan Heatherington - Resign 2 way good insurance D
Nikita Zaitsev - like they say : "trade him right Flipping now"
Formenton - 2 years for around 2.5
Norris - same contract as Suzuki ?
Erik Brannstrom - Either trade in package for a top4 D or top 6 FWD or resign 2 years
Ennis - sign one year 4th line or 13th foward next season hopefully
Joseph - sign 2 years below 1.5
NEXT YEAR LINE-UP:
Tkachuk- Norris - Batherson
Formenton- Stutzle- Top 6 FWD
Joseph- Pinto - Brown
Greig/Kelly - Kastelic - Ennis/ Watson
Chabot- Zub
Sanderson - Hamonic?
Brannstrom /Holden or Holden- Thomsson |

For me that's the problem with this team. The last 2 years they finish well, no pressure on them.....as Pierre McGuire stated about Ottawa on TSN1200 back then, fools gold! He's so correct. When the season starts and there is actual pressure to do well, this team has fallen on it's backside. Now that there's no pressure, they can play loose with no expectations. But when there's expectations, sadly this team has failed. |

Looks great to me but lets hope Sokolov is ready by the trade deadline next year because Ottawa ain't paying Connor Brown 5 million per year on a contract extension. They will have to pick between him Zub on who to re-sign as they are both UFA's end of next season.

Ottawa should tell Vegas we'll take Dadonov off your hands but you give us your second round pick this year and your first round pick next year. |

Yeah, also need to consider if Brown gets bumped down the lineup and receives less minutes in a contract year because of an off-season RW acquisition, he won't be pleased. It would be much more likely he walks as a UFA regardless of the kind of season he has if he's stapled to the third after his production this season. We should be thinking of adding two RWs in the off IMO - one defensive minded forward with real 3rd line upside (in the mould of a younger Sean Kuraly or Oskar Sundqvist -someone you can lock into a 4-5 year sub 3M deal) to play our fourth line RW next year (making Watson or Kelly an extra forward), and, of course, Claude Giroux. This way when we trade Brown we have a perfect sub in waiting, so if we happen to be a competitive squad we don't miss a step if we trade Brown. |

If I'm Ottawa I do that deal. For a first alone. If I'm Vegas I wait to see how the next 4 games goe, to see tif they have a chance and if bringing Stone back for a playoff push makes sense. |

If that actually happened it would like the Draft Day scene where gets all four of his picks back. I mean, could you imagine....Vegas being that desperate.

Yes. Should it all come together, and the stars align and everyone develop at the pace we all hope and should the coach somehow not find a way to screw it up playing favorites...then YES.....that's what the line up should look like.

Unrelated to the convo, but there's rumour of Kent Hughes having been interested in Colin White as his former player agent at the deadline. Pure speculation here, but given past habits, our predilection to sell low, and the term left on White's deal, I suspect the return might be the last year of Paul Byron's contract. I'll let you guess where Byron is from. |
