What happened to the "golden child" stevie yzerman?
Huge overrated favorite in these parts....
Tampa still winning after his departure
Detroit losing 11-2 yesterday |

If only he had guys like Stamkos, Kucherov, Point and Hedman to build around. |

I don't get it. He set that franchise up to be successful for many years. He drafted incredibly well for many years and simultaneously was a master at getting players signed to team-friendly contracts. They are going to be reaping the benefits of that for years to come.
Detroit was in bad, bad shape when he got there and he is already turning them around. If memory served me many people shook their had at his selection of Seider but he absolutely nailed that one. |

What the hell happend with that.
All Sabres insiders were saying that the Goat head was going to be reveled against Washington and then it wasn't.
will it happen at RJ night? - ImThatGuy
I was wondering where that rumor came from lol.
I heard the old empire theme song and intro. That is when I got excited and nope never showed |

Yeah, I can't blame a guy like that for wanting to do the same thing for the franchise he spent his entire career playing for. That being said, he still needs some absolute studs for that to work. He hasn't got them yet.
EDIT: I just went and looked at the standings. Detroit has been absolutely awful on the road this year. Compare that to a team like Buffalo who is only a game better at home than on the road. |

Tampa had an elite core in place due to Stevie Y lol
He is starting the red wings from scratch basically |

I think the main reason they won and other teams with stars didn't win is Yzerman's ability to find stars outside of the top 10 of the draft.

If you're having difficulty, start with the standings.
Notice the team that lost 17 straight last season ( exactly a year ago ) is just 4 points behind detroit in the standings.
Take a look at our rotation of:
41 year old
Bad subban
Houser
Upl
Lunaion's guy dt31
2 wins behind and closing
Any further questions?

I would still rather have Steve Yzerman running my team than Kevyn Adams. And that's even considering how well they're playing as of late. Buffalo is playing well. Detroit is in a bit of a slump. That will change, just as ebbs and flows happen every season.

Stadium deal is done, but man is this such a short sighted build.
I get cost, but you get what you pay for.
This all but guarantees Buffalo will never host any major or even important sporting events outside of bills games. |

Us Sabres fans should know that rebuilds usually don’t happen quickly
And most of those Tampa guys are holdovers from the Stevie Y era
It’s not like there’s been a ton of turnover there
Not with “the core” at least |

Quite possibly
Or
Someone else was responsible for constructing a team around hedman and stammer?
Stevie got undeserved credit and now is shown as a fraud |

Arguably Adam's and stevie can be interchangeable
What about the talent ralph and kyvnv acquired recently.
Seider is an excellent player
I'm ok with quinn, peterka and power. 😀

Without getting back into it, my full statement was that he could/should have been a bigger star in this league than he was as he had all of the tools. "Overrated" doesn't mean you aren't a great player, it just means that you aren't as good as your reputation suggests. At one point he probably was a top 10 player in the league but that ship sailed a while ago. - Slump Buster

So there was a shadow GM in Tampa pulling all of the right strings? That's pretty harsh.
Keep in mind that Detroit was an absolute mess when he joined. The cupboard was bare and they had a ton of vets on bad contracts. As I said earlier, he has them going in the right direction.

I know we like to dream big, but Buffalo is simply not a destination for those kind of events, regardless of where the stadium would be built. The city just isn't built for it.
There's still not enough hotel space, though that is improving. The highway/transportation system in and out of the city is still incredibly archaic, and probably most importantly, you can't fly direct in or out of Buffalo from a number of major cities, with some of the major airlines continuing to cut routes from here (*cough* Southwest *cough*). The weather doesn't help either.
As far as sports go, I think Rounds 1 & 2 of March Madness are as big of an event this city is ever going to get. |

1/2 the games being tax-free income at least, while being able to live by the beach. Honestly why it took them so long to play this card is beyond me. |

Idk how Poltapov will play out, but we could have had Scott Morrow at the first pick in the second round. He's a beast. |

Not sure what you mean - every agent makes it clear what the tax advantages or disadvantages are signing contracts. It isn't a new thing.
Also, a lot of players don't want to play in the south because they say it doesn't feel like hockey. The florida teams are a destination now because the teams are good, not because of the beaches. Same thing with the Bills - players are giving discounts to play here because we are good.
