It had to be done - but I miss him…The return was strong and hopefully we can capitalize on those pics either by keeping them or trade them.. |

This is the slow way. The Ducks could have made the playoffs next year. |

Despite having a decent season at the get-go, I don't see any of these trades working in the short term for the Ducks. Had they continued with their good play and kept Lindholm, the playoffs were a distinct possibility this year. Now, with this trade, poor performances by some players in the past few weeks and some poor coaching (how else to explain this massive slide), we are not primed for playoffs anytime soon. I don't see next year as being in a playoff position despite some great steps forward by the younger crew, not with other teams also making the same strides. I'm not impressed by Dallas' coaching talent and don't see a change in his style coming soon. Is there a short-term remedy? Probably not, but we have sucked for a few years now as other teams (e.g., Calgary) have really improved. Maybe these new picks will work out in the long run, but even if they do, other trades will happen and some will retire, meaning we are back where we started. I don't see any obvious answers to the Ducks' woes. |

The biggest obstacle to success this yr has been the craptacular play of "Mr. I don't want to be part of a rebuild" Gibson.. who has gone full Tank mode... pretty sorry if you ask me... Can't wait till that stiff is history at the draft... Almost as much as I want DE gone.. who is def out.. No way Verbeek allows him another yr.
But next yr will be Stolli the goalie and Dostal.. which will be more than good enough... A big FA signing.. which I believe Verbeek will def do.. a finisher for Z or MacTavish. Along with all the kids coming.. mix in a couple vets and here we are ...

Hell no..
I envision some combo of
34 /4
Zellweger he's a Duck next yr no doubt his offensive game alone warrants it..
Benoit / Mahura / Drew and I expect at least 1 big FA signing on the backend.. Klingburg anyone ????
With the money available.. 1 big FA signing on the wing and D...

If we put more prospects in the roster next year it will only lead to more chaos. This team needs more defense. Maybe sign a deman in free agency on a one or two year contract. Just a bridge between younger players. Perhaps take on another bad contract to fill out the roster. And I'd really like to see another veteran winger added. Maybe Phil Kessel. We just need to shore up the roster till the next wave of prospects are ready. Let the new prospects wait in the AHL for a year. And If any prospects look ready. Maybe bring them up at different times next season.
The Duck really need to get a system going. That will make it easier for younger players to integrate these games into the NHL. The focus needs to be on player development. And that's really hard too do when the team is really chaotic. Gets some veterans. Play some decent hockey. Develop young players. Simple.
Ducks fans are just going to have to wait a couple of years for the prospect to be ready. This is going to be a slow process. We could have been more aggressive with prospect development if we still had a good core. But now this Ducks team is so bad, that bringing up young players might actually slow there development. |

Realistically, this team had no chance making the playoffs at the deadline. Moving all the key UFA’s was huge and the returns for the most part were great. I wish Gibson would have been moved as this team is realistically 2-3 years out from competing again. The young guns took big steps aside from Steel and Comtois. I anticipate Verbeek letting Eakins go and trading or signing a Defenseman that fits the ducks timeline (younger than 30). Mactavish will be up and will immediately be an impact player giving us a good glimpse at our potential 1/2 centers.
In regards to the D, I think it’ll be a young inexperienced group that can skate.
Fowler/Shattenkirk
Drysdale/Vaakaneinen
Mahura/Benoit
A stolarz/Dostal tandem.
Young team that realistically won’t compete for playoffs but has the framework for big future success.
Also look out for Helleson as this kid could end up being a stud as well and Zellweger. I anticipate Perrault fighting for a spot as well.
Next couple seasons will be ugly but soon after will be the start of a great young team (avalanche like) |

Nobody said this team would make the playoffs this year. But the plan was this was the last year of the tank. Bob Murray wasn't even tanking. It was a retool. Ducks did such a good job drafting over the last 3 years that we didn't have to do a rebuild.
And the Ducks got a low first round pick and 4 low 2nd round picks. The low 2nds aren't going to get the Ducks much. Probably bottom 6 fowards or bottom pairing dman. I'd rather have Lindholm and start Building up the team now. |
