It just boggles my mind they still haven’t disclosed what the exact issue with Ellis is. Or does the player have to approve it to be released?
- hereticpride

I'm not totally sure. He might just be a private guy about his health, which is completely fair.

I am likely reading too much into it, but I'd have expected him to at least talk to the media a bit more this season. To be in stories how he is still around the team, etc. There was a comment I believe early on this season how he wanted to be best friends with Provorov off the ice also, to ensure they develop as much chemistry as possible.

It's just a strange situation all round.

If it's not critical enough people will say Bill was going easy because he works for them. It's a no win situation for Bill.
- FlyerFan16

Would simply be an interesting read. Whether its critical or not, and it really wouldn't have to be.

Things are just so stale when it comes to talking about the Flyers that being able to get some insight into that front office beyond just Fletcher, and Flahr would be appreciated. I don't for a second believe there isn't more collaboration. We just never get to hear about the other individuals.

I would definitely like to hear more about the dynamics of the front office. A lot of assumptions being made.

Im sure as with any medical issue, you would need the players ok. I would think that would be part of contract language.

Either way, lower body injury is purposefully vague.

I just get the feeling Ellis never wanted to be here. I would not be surprised if he never played for us.

Random thought.

I'd love to see Bill speak a little more about the power/influence dynamics of the Flyers Front Office.

Including the current role of senior advisors, etc.

I don’t think that’s a good idea for Bill if he wants to keep in good standing with the team. I don’t know what the internal chain of command is and who cares more about fluff vs the actual on ice product. I worked in a corporate setting for 28 years, there usually are a few groups of management types some are results and people driven who are responsible for the growth of the business. An other group are just passengers trying to be seen as drivers but in fact they are just passengers trying to take credit when things go well but blame others or try to hide when things go bad.

From the outside it’s hard tell the difference but the people who work there know who is a part of each group.

If Bill does write a piece like this he needs to be very careful because the passengers usually don’t like to be called out.

I figure they will exhaust all treatment avenues around Sept 20th. And he will be out for half the next season.

need him on the LTIR till the playoffs, so they can pull the Tampa and win the cup

I'll say this about Hayes - now that he's healthy he's playing like a new man
- Scoob

He really has been. Coming back off of some back to back surgeries and a family loss and he is playing some of the best hockey I've seen him play.
If he continues to play like this then he will live up to his cap hit
I don't understand the Hayes hate.. or the hate of most of the flyers, tbh

Same. The whole thing just seems weird. Just my gut feeling. The situation just has a very strange vibe to it. Not exactly sure how the other options would play out, but I definitely won't be surprised if he doesn't play for the Flyers again. I think he was happy in Nashville and surprised that they traded him. And being forced to board this sinking ship didn't help matters.

Kid knows how to set up for the break away I’ll give him that.

There’s a player he reminds me of a bit in terms of style but we don’t dare say that name around here

Lot of assumptions, folks around here say Clarke is still heavily involved but others report he’s down in Florida most of the season.

No, I don't think people have said that Clarke is heavily involved. Heavily involved would include being around the team on a daily basis. There is no doubt that Clarke is in the ear of the GM and that the GM takes counsel from him. Clarke doesn't have to be in Philly for that to happen.

In his ear with what? Calling him from the golf course and saying hey TK sucked trade him? I think the Clarke stuff is a lot about nothing.

In his ear about the obvious. About not taking a patient draft and develop path. About being aggressive to win now. Spending to the cap. The Flyers way! I think it's naïve to think it's about nothing. It couldn't be more in plain sight what has been going on with this team and who has major influence.

Never going to get anything more than just a generalization. We have more than enough evidence to know what's going on in my opinion.

Chuck and Clarke are really close. Clarke got Chuck the job. You can bet he ain't shy about giving Chuck (or even Scott) a nudge or two on the overarching team direction and what it means to play "Flyers hockey" and all that.

Nobody is saying he's meddling in the day to day.

I agree with this. I think he was a good signing. He needed to get over his injuries. He is a pro and always works hard. Coots will be the same way. I do think that Ellis never really wanted to be here and has a demonstrated history of injuries. I am not sure that we will get much from him.

Odds he’s ready for camp next year ?
- ClaudeFather

He'll be ready. Im sure theres a cutoff day where they say frank it, surgery. that date would depend on rehab time from surgery. I imagine that wouldnt be until May or June

It is pretty confusing in that it has been serious enough to keep him out all year, but not serious enough to need surgery?

Usually season ending injuries don't just heal themselves.

I highly doubt that. If that were the case he wouldnt have even tried playing. He played through training camp and a few RD games before going out and then he returned for another game before being held out again. I dont see any reason why the injury would be related to whether he wants to play here or not

This is the problem with a team also owning media outlets and employing people to cover the team. Human nature takes over, and people fear telling the truth for fear of losing their jobs; whether that fear is real or not does matter; it is placed in their minds.
