How can a team be that bad and still not be in position to draft top 3. Ugh.

only person in the world with this type of "injury". He has been sent to Calcutta and Katmandu for remedies. He has spoken to the lady with the 3rd eye. He has visited the tree of woe.

It is beyond ridiculous at this point. Whatever it is they full well know what the issue is at this time.

- hello it's me 2050

Its not always that simple. I had severe wrist pain for 2 years. I was told by doctors it was carpal tunnel. So I was being treated for that. It never improved with physio and multiple pills perscribed. They even did ultrasounds on my wrists. After checking with multiple doctors one finally looked at me and told me my forearms were to big, that i was over exerting them. Spent months getting massages on the forearms and triceps and pain finally went away. It was never carpal tunnel

Point of the story is there are so many things that can cause pain and it doesnt always originate where the pain is. Doctors are quick to jump to the common causes but theres no guarantee that the common issue is the problem. Doctors can be wrong, it can also take them a long time to figure out the issue.

The could know what the issue is buts its not beyond unreasonable to think they might not know and have misdiagnosed. Again not suggesting its the case. Just that its a possibility.

The secrecy and the possible frustration between Ellis and the Medical Staff would be explained by not knowing what the injury is

You can believe what you like as I will believe what I like.

Were you being treated by the best Doctors?

Does Chuck hold onto JVR til next years deadline and get something of decent value for him

Or does he try to unload him this summer for quick cap relief and a minimal return to blow right away on overpaying someone else

The latter

They won't get out of it. He could go on LTIR for five years, but that's far from ideal.

If it is declared that Ellis is not going to play again. His contract then becomes a tradeable asset.

Do the Flyers have the Best medical staff?

Canada has universal healthcare. I see whatever doctor they tell me to see. At the end of the day the worlds best doctors are still human and make mistakes.

IOr it's something degenerative where getting surgery could mean that he might not be able to play any longer.
- MJL

Let's say that is the case - hypothetically. Is there not a way to say that he is medically unable to play, terminate the contract, and have insurance cover it?

I will speak for MJL as he informed me on this a few days ago. The top 6 contracts are insured as required under the CBA, by the team. Ellis retires, gets paid fully, off the books.

No, there is not a way. He would be on LTIR for the term of the contract

It's like Pronger all over again. Isn't there a rule that he has to show the ability to skate to retire?

Good points, can't disagree. Personally, I would not want to see Torts, Julien, or Toch as HC

thanks - then the only way to get that contract off the books is to trade it to a team looking to get to the cap floor?

I think there has been a little too much secrecy about exactly what he's dealing with, why it's taken so long to make a decision on the best way to go forward and how we literally went from day to day in October to out for the season with no clarity whatsoever.

Again the insurance factor has nothing to do with how Ellis's contract will be handled if he cannot play again. Again, as I told you previously, Ellis is not going to retire. If he willingly retires, he walks away from 29M dollars. Not likely to do that. Again, the cap exists in part to account for player spending and the ensure the 50/50 split of HRR between the players and ownership. There is no such thing as player salary coming off the books. A player placed on LTIR counts against the cap the same as any other player does. LTIR is an exemption to replace an injured player IF replacing that player puts a team over the upper limit. If a team has ample cap space under the upper limit, then LTIR is not available to them for a player out injured long term.

If it's deemed that he is not going to play again, it would be that scenario or to a team that is capped out and is looking to raise their upper limit.

Wonder how much business my mechanic could generate if he referred to his business as a practice. “We have 5 mechanics practicing here.”
