Martin is a nice story but the transition to backup goalie isn’t always easy. Hopefully they have three guys at the start of the season they are comfortable with available for NHL games. |

They might get a capable back up in the Miller trade. |

You need 2 capable backups these days. This is the 2nd time this season that the Canucks have had to ride the 3rd stringer. |

I like the mid to late 20’s reclamation project, or a vet willing to play in the AHL or NHL. I didn’t think Halak was all that bad this year other than maybe two games. |

Because of the sh it stain Benning left cap wise there's already 8.9mil tied up in Goalies next year. A reclamation project is probably the only way to keep things cost effective on the big club while they ride out the dead space.

lol wow. The team clips along at .668% under Boudreau and you are looking that far ahead? The window for a good PO run will be upon this club in 1-2 seasons if we just be patient and tweak it. Selling of our 'stars' to get cap relief at this point is redundant. You want another 7-8 years of mediocrity? Go for it. No one is saying Boudreaus PO record is exceptional...but you absolutely cannot discredit what's he's done here with pretty much the exact same roster Green had. So you are basically saying start fresh? Cmon man...be smart. - LordHumungous
Yet with saying all that, the team was still exactly where the pundits before the season started said they'd be, outside the playoffs in the bubble. Even with the coaching change they still start slow and take 1-1 1/2 periods to get their feet under them and they still can't compete with big physical teams that like to crash and bang. Nor do they consistently beat playoff teams even with the BB factor, that's not the mark of a team that's destined for greatness, that's mediocrity that a few 'tweaks' isn't going to somehow change.
I want the team to actually be forward thinking and realize that they don't HAVE a window and work towards opening one up in 3-4 years when Petey, Hughes and Demko are well into their primes and surround them with talent. I'm prepared for another 4-5 years of suckage if we get a stretch of years where the team is at the top or near the top of the league in the standings and is in the conversation to win the Cup. That's not this team, that will never be this team and it's stupid to think that magically with a couple pieces they will.
The cap issues aren't going to magically all disappear, and you aren't getting Miller or Horvat or Boeser on cheap short-term deals. They're rightly going to want to cash in and so should they. Let's stop worrying about the names on the back of the jersey and look at the big picture for once. Benning screwed us over, and it's going to take those 4-5 years to untangle the mess he's made of our cap, prospect pipeline and draft capital. It also means we need to realize that likely this year was the last chance for this core to stay together and do something.
I'd be very upset if major changes to the team aren't at least started this off-season, I don't expect everyone to go at once, but I do expect one or two big names/potential big contract extentions to go and more to follow eventually. BB isn't the answer in the long term, and he wasn't a JR/PA hiring, so there's a good possibility he's not here next year too (not saying he won't be, just that the management group might want to hire their own coach, or at least interview BB along with other candidates). |

A lot of ppl are stuck on the the teams winning percentage under Boudreau, I don’t know if it’s sustainable or not, hopefully it is, regardless, in order for the club to improve they’ve gotta deal with Boeser, Myers and or OEL salary.
The team still relies on stellar goaltending too much, they’ve gotta deal with a few bloated salaries if they have any hope of re-signing Miller. |

When you say things like this, almost makes me think we should hang onto him. Considering how “bad” he was according to you when we got him |

I never said he was bad when they got him, I didn't like the price paid and I thought the trade was unnecessary due to the construction of the club at the time. |

I remember saying that people are going to have a hard time differentiating between the player and the trade.
He's been about as good as can be expected post trade, but all it did was give us a bump towards mediocrity. |

Miller is definitely the first domino. Whether he wants to re-sign and whether his asking price is reasonable dictates where you go from there. I still say you hang onto Myers for another year and half unless somebody makes an offer that's in the ballpark of what Chairot fetched.
I'll go out on a limb and say Myers improves next year on the offensive side of the puck. I'm impressed with how his defending improved this year. It's pointless to try to sell him at a loss. |
