No. There ARE reasons.
It was the Leafs who confirmed their own weaknesses and shortcomings.
Quit making this about fans who see the Leafs for what they are. - fifty__missions
All reasons for and against on either team. Those reasons added up to a ridiculously even series.
Last year a lot of fans had your perspective on the Leafs, this year people are being more present because of the great series they put on against the best team in the league.
Loving how more people are seeming to be on the opposite end of your current perspective, even though the feeling sucks its great to see from the fans |

That’s not what I said. Losing a close series to a very good team does not necessarily mean you are deeply flawed. There are things to improve. Do so. - Canada Cup
Yup this.
Can't react too much on emotion as a fan.
TB sure does suck if they just went 7 games with near identical peripheral stats to a deeply flawed team |

How much of a raise are sandin and lily really getting? Realistically, what kind of raise do they actually deserve? Neither stood out as anything special, honestly. Even healthy, sandin stays next to lily in the press box. But I have no doubt Dubas finds a way to overpay to ensure he receives Christmas cards from his players… - bartsch
They are both RFA with no arbitration rights. minimum 10% increase if they are qualified by the team, which they will qualify them. |

Chatted with Bergeron off to the side (open locker rooms!) and he shot down the Montreal possibility.
Can see how dots would be connected, but no.
Was about to chirp Habs fans here....but then remembered we thought Brad Richards and Jason Spezza(in his prime) were signing here when we sucked |

You can keep saying "people" agree with your take. Go ahead. Doesn't make it true. You're right and the world is wrong, anyway. As usual.
Fact is, we found a way to lose, in the same way.

What did this line doin the last 4-5 games. Wonder what their ice time was? - jribout
Bellemare:10:26 ATOI
Perry: 9:50 ATOI
Maroon: 6:49 ATOI
As for the Leafs:
Spezza: 8:04 ATOI
Blackwell: 7:12 ATOI
Simmonds: 5:33 ATOI
Clifford: 0:49 ATOI (had to add him)
Kase: 10:22 ATOI (but started the series on the Tavares line).
The 5 Leafs that played on the 4th line, combined for 1 goal.
The depth wasn't as good..

The writers, these boards, twitter, my leaf fan friends. 100% there is a different reaction as a whole than last playoffs.
I am not saying I am right. Just that there are a lot of people that are thinking differently about this loss than you.
Last year you had a lot of people on this, this year not so much
Look at last years HB boards after the Leafs loss and look at this one. Very very different |

Bit of irony in the you're right the world is wrong take, the world has been here telling you otherwise for pages on end while you pound your chest about the sky falling and it being a fact that it's the same as always.
It's the same if you choose to throw your blinders on and refuse to look at anything beside the 4-3 series result. Consistently telling everyone it's a fact doesn't absolve you from the sheer ignorance that's required to dismiss anything else and settle on that fact and that fact alone.
The leafs may have just lost to the first actual dynasty in 40 years by literally one (frank)ing goal over a 7 game series. Thinking that's how the world ends is completely asinine. |

This is results industry, however.
There will be changes this year, whatever you and your "people" say. I'm just wondering if they will be significant enough. |

This is one of the deepest, more well rounded teams of the Dubas era for sure.....heck the best in decades (which isnt saying much considering this franchise hasnt had good teams for so long).
This team did show some fight and did show that they dont always give up and can come back. But it wasnt on consistent basis. They had several no show periods, which you cant do in the playoffs, specially for a team that touted how much they had changed, how things were gonna be different, how much they had to prove and how badly the franchise needed a series win.
The problem is they are really tight up against the cap. They need to bring back Laboushe, and Gio and get rid of Mrazek.
I dont think Kase, and Spezza will be back..unless they sign league minimum. Blackwell may be back. Mik will probably go for a bigger payday elsewhere.
The big question is Campbell, how do you access him. Is he a goalie that can take you over the hump, win a cup or even just go on a deep playoff run? If so, how much do you pay him? If not, who is that could be available?
Keep the core 4 together unless they believe someone within the organization can replace the scoring. But I havent seen anyone like that.
I really like Kerfoot and what he brings...but could he be replaced internally? Dunno. But his cap, although justified for what he does, may be too rich for the leafs.
The leafs have missed several opportunities the past several years. Its too bad. - Fakepartofme
Think it's time to move out #8. If he doesn't retire first.
Laboosh was a fantastic add. Resign him, priority #1

Last 3 games neither line scored and the minus was 0.
Perry was -4 for the series. 3 of his line’s goals were in the 7-3 blowout
The impact of both 4th lines was minimal

Matthews had 9 points, Marner had 8, Nylander had 7.. Tavares and Rielly both had 6 points in 7 games.. Leafs top guys matched Tampa's big guys...
Their 4th line scored 4 goals in the 7 games.. The Leafs 4th line, scored once in 7 games. - PatC80
Our third and fourth lines have been a work in progress for a number of years.
Third line is "better", Need to tinker more with the 4th.
Can't trust our" beef" of Simmons and Clifford in big games

There were a million little things. Leafs now have to improve to the point to make those less relevant or make them that much better than whoever they play in the first round next year.
No point in complaining about poopty playoff structure - we’re going to get someone tough, or refs - they suck.
I’d like to see the guy we all hoped but never really believed Ritchie would be on the wing with Matthews and Marner. If they can find a new winger for the second line, great. There are third and fourth line guys I like. The only one I really, really want them to keep is Kampf. Find $ wherever you can with the rest, starting with the $3.? guy.
D seems to be sorting itself out. I think Lilli is ready to take Holl’s spot.
We saw mirage Jack for a while this year and a Jack that played worse than he really is. But I think he hit his ceiling in the playoffs - good, but quite enough. I sure hope they have somebody in mind if they let him go because good might look great if we end up with someone poopty. - Canada Cup
#1 is a cromulent point👍
I don’t know how the new gm gets this done without dealing floater willi. legit power forwards are at a premium🤦🏿♂️
having enough good actual defensemen is clearly not sorting itself out🤦♂️
see the front of our net over the last couple of decades🤦🏿♂️
this will require hunter to make another big deal to get a couple of studs like chichiryn and parayko👍
then we just have to sit back and watch glassthews and trotz work their magic👍🏿😁 |
