Going to guess he gets a bridge for something in the neighborhood of 3 years @ $4M AAV |

A move from within looks good for now, and yes Lou definitely needs to polish the roster up.

I am happy with this. I think we will be fine after we get rid of dead weight. |

I guess Lane is out of the running for Yzerman's coach. Good, I hope they hire his former boss and mentor! Detroit could use a Trotz defense first approach to the game! |

I was mostly making a joke, but I don't think he got any sort of other job with the team after he was canned. If I recall, he did not leave on good terms. He has some job on NHL Network now. |

Wait..now Doug gets to throw his weight around the studio. Doug was no heavyweight when he played but he was no lightweight either. I’ll see myself out. |

Based upon many factors, this decision make sense on many levels.
1. My theory is that Lou knew into a critical year that he could not have a lame duck coach. Meaning a coach on an expiring contract with the core locked up. Lou made Barry an offer. Barry was not ready to make a decision beyond next season. The talk and Lou decides to let him go.
2. There has been talk when Barry took this position that Lane would most likely be his successor. Lou decides it is time to lock Lambert up rather than taking a chance at the end of next season having him leave for greener pastures i.e. Detroit.
3. Lambert is the obvious choice based upon what Coaches are currently available. Plus Lambert knows what he has and wheat he needs. The players are familiar with him. There will not be drastic tweaks to the current system, which reduces the learning curve moving forward.
4. This allows Lou to focus on the changes that need to be made to the roster.
In the end I think this is the best solution for the Islanders right now. |

Word is Trotz wife is sick. So Cudos to Lou for taking care of Barry.
“ Isles offered Trotz extension but he wouldn't commit past contract due to personal life mother passing his wife is sick. He doesn’t know what his future coaching is or if he’s going back home etc. Barry highly recommended lane too take over as Detroit had interest I believe to interview and hire him potentially so naturally fan base freaked out and wanted Lou's head but now that all the facts etc come out from the horses mouth himself we can relax knowing it was all put into motion before seasons end and Barry was not fired for doing a bad job. It was a mutual understanding and Barry will always be beloved amongst fans like Al was for what he did”
One change is Lane is going to let Barzal and Wahlstrom pick the line up for each game. |
