Of course, with the caveat that it would depend on the cost. - MBFlyerfan
You get what you pay for. Seeing that I would pay more as it is worth it knowing you cant count on Ellis. This is a case where you may need to not be cheap.
Very curious to see what he does on the D end.

If they are able to draft Nemec (I hope). That may be a good start.

I have a hard time seeing Fletcher having York plus another young guy in the top 6. Hope I am wrong. We shall see.
ivan - york -RR- Sanheim....they are the only 4 guarantees more than likely. So imo he needs 2 more good Dman.

Both Dmen are often behind the net together, but it’s usually in a board battle, and there is 100% coverage in front through the center or all 3 opposing forwards are down with them. This was a different scenario, it was 2 Dmen chasing a guy that was a good 5 feet plus away from both players who would not have gotten to that player before time expired. Kucherov was only a threat once Weegar engaged. End of story. Obviously a great pass too - ClaudeFather
Correct, and once the opposing team gets possession of the puck the defenseman collapse back to the slot area. In this case Weeger was either not aware where his D partner was or just lost track of the moment and tried to make a play he didn't need to make, and he got burned by an unbelievable play. |

Parise is done so I get that one. Suter still good though apparently he was an issue. Not about his play. - hello it's me 2050
No, it was about his play as well. Middleton is a better fit and an upgrade over Suter.

Barry Trotz does not strike me as a man that wastes his own time or the time of others. Thus I believe if he is interviewing for the Flyers job today, he is genuinely interested in the job. If I were Fletcher I would do whatever it takes to get him, I really think he is the right coach for this team, and I think this team is a lot better than most people think. |

From Charlie O'Connor of the Athletic today:
But don’t get sucked into the idea that everyone is laughing at Fletcher for acquiring and prioritizing Ristolainen. That may be the bulk of the discourse online. Talk to lots of people in the game, however, and you’ll hear an entirely different viewpoint.
Hockey people — not all, but a large portion — tend to really, really like Ristolainen. They love his attitude. They love his physicality. They love that opposing players openly grouse about having to play against him. They love the fact that he brings those attributes to the table while still being able to skate well for his size, contribute on the power play and hold up from an endurance standpoint in heavy minutes. Talk to them, and they’ll tell you that the online hate that Ristolainen receives isn’t merely incorrect, it’s utterly ridiculous, and betrays a complete lack of understanding on the part of stat-oriented fans regarding what constitutes “winning hockey.”
Take that @MJL and your fellow Risto haters! Clearly I am "hockey people" :-) |

Then the GM should have traded him for a haul...sounds like a fluff piece someone asked him to write.
All RR knows is losing hockey. He has zero desire to win. If he did he would have tested free agency and put all those positive attributes on display in the playoffs. Built for playoff hockey him and his agent said. |

The Flyers had the worst PP in the league and couldn't find more than 45 minutes for Risto to contribute. He had one PP assist. He also missed 16 games via three separate injuries. Some of these alleged positives for him didn't even happen this season.
The reason for laughing at Fletcher is that he spent a 1st, and two 2nds to acquire Risto and the team and the team's defense were much worse than the previous season when they were already bad.
As for "winning hockey", Ristolainen has never played on a playoff team in his entire career. |

The rest of the quote.
Yes, the Rasmus Ristolainen trade and subsequent re-signing were largely ridiculed online and on social media, and not just within the Flyers fan base. Basically, anyone who believes in the viability of advanced metrics as a player evaluation tool sees Ristolainen as a third-pair defenseman at absolute best, and many view him as barely worthy of an NHL roster spot at all. Obviously, I fall in the “advanced stat believer” camp, though I lean far more toward the third pair evaluation than the worst NHL defenseman hyperbole that sometimes is tossed around on Twitter. That said, I was roundly critical of both the trade and signing, and remain extremely skeptical that either was the right decision. |

The trade was bad. I get what what he tried to do. Many knew it was bad. A good GM walks away and limits the damage. Not double down. That is the big issue to me.

So it’s an AHL deal? Because I’ve seen it reported as a Flyers deal. If it’s a Flyers deal they could’ve let him hit UFA and have an extra roster spot during the summer, no? - hereticpride
No it's an NHL deal. Contract slots are not an issue.

LMAO. Other teams love it when he's out there. That means they're going to have the puck, get plenty of quality scoring chances and a good number of goals.
You love anecdotal and unsupported evidence while you ignore the actual evidence.

Yes, pretty sure it was a Giroux road Jersey. I think they showed another guy in a Flyers jersey at one point too.
That guy looked miserable every time they cut to him tho. Kind of hilarious 😂 - hereticpride
I think you're right about which jersey it was, the hideous white one with the gold numbers. So I think it would have to be G, as Gudas & Bob weren't on the team when those rags were rolled out. He did look miserable, which is completely understandable. |

Totally agree. He will not be blocking anyone. The Flyers will not have a prospect sitting in the box just to have a 7th dman. - WhiskeyMan
I put nothing passed this office. Seeler played all of the first half of the regular season after Ellis’ injury with York in the minors. |

Anyone who hates Risto being on this team, that’s your choice. I personally don’t have a huge issue with him but I also wasn’t in favor of the price we paid to get him. With this said, he was used on the power play a handful of times, which was expected, so why use anything power play against Ristolainen? I also don’t understand using his injuries against him. Ellis’ injuries are a factual problem, not Ristolainen’s. As for the “alleged positives”, I was only expecting him to be a physical player on the back end, which he was. |
