This!! Ratcloffe wasn't that awful when he was here and with some good coaching he may turn out to be a solid 4th liner with some size and skill
I'd take him over Thompson or some other players as well

- Bob Habib

Hope he is a late bloomer. Would be nice if he could mail down that 4 th line spot. Size with potential yet. Big guys take a bit to adjust.

No need to do it before late July / august.

Theres no reason to wait. Why would you wait until after free agency to sign a guy you currently have the rights to sign.

It is like a to do list, sometimes you tackle the easier stuff to shorten the list. It is funny because the same people complaining about this move also want us to improve the 4th line before sorting out the other 3 lines

I'm amazed that there are hockey fans who don't know the most simple basic things. Such as the period between the end of a team's season and the draft is when they negotiate to re-sign RFA players. Apparently some also think there is some kind of pecking order also. That don't understand that the team makes offers to many players that they want to re-sign and if a depth player is the first to agree to sign. Then he is signed first.

Its just something new for everyone to complain about. Some people arent happy unless they are complaining. When was the last time anyone talked about a good game a flyer player had....it just rarely gets discussed.
- bradster

I hear you. I know the wins were few this year, but when they did win, the comments were way down. When they lost, there was post after post just about Risto alone. I see people are still complaining about him today. It's May...people should enjoy watching the good teams in the playoffs and enjoy the summer!

Most of us are able to do multiple things. Such as having varied discussions on the Flyers while also watching and enjoying playoff hockey. Not sure why you always feel the need to complain about what people are talking about.

Amen! I like what I saw of Ratcliffe even though the games were meaningless. Guys like Nate and Zack don't bother me in limited roles, but I'd love to see someone like Ratcliffe in there instead. That said, I hope they resign Zack just for entertainment purposes bc of the reaction on this board!

Ratcliffe was a 50 goal scorer in the OHL…that’s no small thing. He’s had some injuries but I still think he can bring it up a level. He reminds me of Tage Thompson who had a breakout year in Buffalo this year. Not everyone has a hate on for Mac…and not everyone has a hate on for Risto. I think Nate has passed his usefulness but considering the the last two years there are much more pressing issues besides the 4th line vet energy guy….and yes the playoffs are fantastic.

Yes, there's always hope! Tage was impressive this year so you never know. I'm just hopeful that the Tippetts, Yorks, etc keep improving and we have a team to be excited about again. Thanks for the rational response and enjoy the games!

Your ok if Seeler has to play 40+ games again?
- hello it's me 2050

If Seeler is playing 40+ games, that means the Flyers are once again dealing with major injuries on their blue line, and that would be a bad thing for the team.

What you did was you misrepresented the article by not posting all of it. In the same way just yesterday misrepresented what Cam Neely said in his press conference on Cassidy. You do this frequently to suit your narrative and it's about your credibility

Again, you show a reading comprehension problem. He didn't say that's what real "hockey people" think about Ristolainen. He said there are some real "hockey people" who like the player. Including our GM unfortunately.

- MJL

How did I misrepresent what Neely stated in his press conference? Listen for yourself!

https://www.nbcsports.com...ch-cam-neely-gives-update

Did Neely give Cassidy a vote of confidence? Hell no he didn't! I have heard this exact response to a question about their coach from the Bruins for decades, its right out of the Harry Sinden playbook, "He's a great coach ... BUT ...". All I stated is there is a chance Cassidy is gone, and I just provided you proof. Also since I live in Boston and listen to what is being said by local sports talk, its a real possibility!

I have misrepresented nothing! I posted what "hockey people" (that is people who are waaaay smarter than you) think of Risto from a credible source and have posted what is going in with the Bruins and Cassidy. Both are 100% accurate.

You just don't like the fact that someone on this forum is infinitively more connected and knowledgeable about hockey than you are. Well as Slick Ric would say "Learn to LOVE IT .. because its the best there is! .. Whoooo!"

- hello it's me 2050

Yes it does and here is why. If a hockey team has to play their 7th or 8th defenseman, or has to play their 13th and 14th forward for an extended period of time as was the case last season, that hockey team is in serious trouble. So of course I would not be OK if the Flyers went through another season like the one they just experienced. I like Seeler in the role of 7th or 8th defenseman. He is a solid player that gives his heart and soul each and every game, and is cheap. Every team in the NHL needs a few players like this, and if you you look at the current playoff teams, each has this type of player.

See this is funny. You live in your own reality. Post after post, again and again, you prove that you have no clue what you're watching. Sanheim played with the same forwards that Ristolainen did. Did they not turn the puck over when Sanheim passed the puck up to them? Maybe they just like Sanheim better.

Bottom line. Ristolainen is a mediocre player who is best suited for the 3rd pairing.

- MJL

That is because Sanheim couldn't win a puck battle if his life depended on it! Just like you think Provorov is a better player than his metrics show, I feel the same way about Risto. Nothing "comical" about it, except as a I stated, you just don't like it when people put real facts in front you.

Knowing the injury history of Ellis do you not want a better option as your #7 dman?

Don't give a rats ass about he gives his heart and soul. Tired of hearing this nonsense about borderline payers. He doesn't have much talent. He isnt an NHL dman.

What playoff teams have a Nick Seeler type as there #7 dman?

Yes you did. You stated that Neely said in his press conference that Cassidy may not be back. That is not what he said. You're a fountain of misinformation. There is a difference between what Neely actually said and what you're opinion is.
Even after it has been explained to you. Still don't understand the nuance between some hockey people and hockey people. LOL
Your comment about not liking someone who is more connected and knowledgeable is not something myself or anyone for that matter would take seriously. Your track record is being wrong about 98%of the time and I'm being generous there.

You still can't accurately assess Sanheim as a player. It's extremely comical. Now you've resorted to inventing your own facts. You're embarrassing yourself.

How to you explain that when playing on the same pairing, with the same forwards, Sanheim has strong numbers and Ristolainen doesn't? Are the forwards only turning over the puck when Ristolainen passes it to them?

You don't look at the facts. You only look at what suits you and omit the rest. The recent example is how you omitted the parts of the Athletic article that didn't suit you.
