Varlamov has a NMC no? That makes it exponentially harder to move him. If it were so easy to move Bailey he would’ve been gone already don’t fool yourself with that one. There’s a reason he was exposed and it wasn’t because lameriello thinks he’s a super cerebral hockey player. - Cptmjl
Varly has a modified NTC now. He submits a 16-team no-trade list. |

I don't believe Bratt is really available.. (any more than Beau is available). A lot of these SITEs constantly type nonsense click bait out there and then everyone else runs with it as... "Rumored to be available" ...
I got a million texts on Trotz to Flyers, Nashville, Boston, etc. B/c someone put it in their blog... Trotz wants to spend time with his sick wife, and some other family issues. He didn't want an extension b/c after his mom passed and all of the stuff going on he thought he needed to take a break. Lou "Fired" him to give him that break and b/c he couldn't commit long term.
I could see him getting a position closer to home in MGMT where he doesn't have to travel.. but until it's proven otherwise by a contract.. I can't imagine he is going to coach this year. - niteislander
He gets paid if fired as well. If Barry quits then no 4 million this year.

Having "more cap space" than most of the league is irrelevant without considering how many holes need to be filled on a given roster.
They have to fill three open spots on the blueline, including Dobson. One of the non-Dobson players needs to be actually talented. Maybe the other is Salo and he will re-sign cheap. But that's risky for a guy who didn't impress management/coaches last year.
Trading Varlamov would be exceptionally bad, especially when you realize that we'd have to sign a backup who'd be a significant downgrade for probably $2.5M-$3M or just fill a garbage can with manure to backup Sorokin and pray he never gets hurt.
Moving Bailey alone won't create enough space to sign an offensive defenseman AND a top-tier UFA. It probably won't even create enough space to be able to afford an offensive defenseman and Kevin Fiala. Moving out Beauvillier probably gets them there but then you're creating another hole up front that has to be filled and please don't sit here and tell me Kieffer Bellows (who also needs a contract) is an adequate player to do that. - eichiefs9
Well he’s almost certainly gonna get his opportunity to try. Not many other in house options.
Though I’m hopeful Räty makes his case. |

I'll have to blame Lee if we lose out on Forsberg.

Blame… Bailey?
Yeah. Yeah that sounds right. |

Islanders are going to have to rely on more in house options unless they open up more Cap space and they become a prime FA destination.

Exactly. They have to hope one of Wahlstrom and or bellows play prominent roles next season. Ideally both of them. Not sure if it’ll work out but if it does it makes Bailey and Beau exponentially more expendable. |

They are going to have to reach some of these young forwards and get through to them whether they like it or not. This team has done pretty well with young dmen and they finally hit on a young goalie in Sorokin but the young forwards have been an issue for the longest time. |

I honestly think you have all the contracts on the wall and constantly worry about the cap. When you have $12 mill of cap.. and u need to sign Dobson..
What u think Dobson gets on his bridge deal? $3 or 4 mill ish.. that leaves at least $8 mill + That is certainly enough for one of the top UFA's.. Varly $5 mill and Bailey $5 mill is another $10.. that is enough for the 2 guys.. if you need it. ..
Beau ain't going anywhere despite you guys hating a 24 year old who scores 20 a year and will continue to get better.

Dobson probably gets at least $4M. He was tied for 15th overall in points by a defenseman this year.
Who are you signing to replace Varlamov? Here's your list.
We can't afford Fleury, Kuemper, or Campbell. Everyone else is crap. Moving Varlamov would be a colossal mistake.

Hopefully Raty is the real deal. We have to see how the coaching staff handles young forwards now. The player is just one part of the equation. |

Don’t think Lou is moving Varly.
As far as trades, Beau could certainly be traded if the return is what we need. Now that said I’m not trading Beau to make a trade or to get rid of him because he sucks, like some.
Their aren’t many Isles Players that are on the no trade list imo. |

Holtby, Greiss and Wedgewood interest me.
Apparently, Jersey is looking for a goalie. If Varlamov would consent to go, would one be able to get Graves in return?

You have Beauvillier there. I like some other imaginary, made up, people on here want to trade him because he sucks not for salary cap reasons or to try and improve the position. So get with the program. |

WOW, I haven’t heard the store name Woolworth’s in many years. You could buy a Canary and eat lunch at the counter all in one store.

As A back up I would be fine with most of the guys on that list. Sorokin will be our starter and signing a guy like Halak, Greiss, Kinkaid or a younger guy they think has upside would be fine. Especially with our goalie coaches. Varly is great but he makes $5mill and was hurt for most of last year. If you can get a servicable back up for $3mil less u do it.... IF YOU NEED THE CAP SPACE.
You don't trade a 24 year old top 6 forward. |

I’m not entirely sure what that is.
That said, we’ll operate under the assumption that it’s a sheep and alpaca themed brothel. In which case… no. |
