I'm calling it now, real easy. The first ones in Torts doghouse:

Forward: TK
Defense: Provorov

- Glak18

I don't see that at all.

I'm surprised and disappointed that some of you geniuses didn't throw your hat in the ring for the coaching job. I know you didn't because if you had, you'd surely be the one being announced as the next coach.

If one of the people posting on this board was the coach/GM how many less Cups would they have won in the last 47 years?

I don't like it! John Tortorella has a short shelf life, in terms of coaching, as players get tired of him after a few seasons. I don't think this is going to help this group and it wreaks of desperately trying to win with a roster that IMO isn't capable of competing for Lord Stanley's Cup.

They should, IMO, be hitting the reset button and trying to build something sustainable instead of just throwing poop against the wall to see what sticks.

6+ years in TB, 4.5 years in NY, and 6+ years in Columbus. Not exactly a short shelf life coach.

Trotz wasn't even a finalist. The three coaches being considered were Tortorella, DeBoer, and Jack Capuano.

Good lord.

Not comical at all! Its the right way to build the team ...
- jd250

Agreed! Torts is being brought in to fix the team and give it structure. After he does that, another coach will be brought in to make a run for the cup.

This is now the Flyers 7th head coach in the last 9 years. Absurd.

Did you count how many of them managed Stanley cup final ?

According to the interwebs Trots turned down a 7 mill a year deal from the Flyers.

I actually think Torts is a very good coach, however the reason I don't like him and didn't want the Flyers to hire him is because of all the baggage that comes with him. Torts IMO in the past has put himself ahead of his team, with the battles with the media and the public criticism of players. I didn't like it when AV called out Hart unfairly during the 2020-2021 season and I believe that is when the team turned on him. I have no confidence Torts can keep his big mouth shut any better, and we have already seen how this group of players responds to that type of public criticism.
- jd250

Maybe I just don’t see the parallel. Torts seems to be overly blunt on players when actually criticism is warranted. Not trying to scapegoat players, but rather overly protective to the point of drawing all the focus to himself like a shield. Not sure about the ego, only those that are close to him would truly know.

Is it possible Fletcher has Trotz and Torts mixed up in his phone? That level of incompetence would seem right on par for him.

They offered Trotz double John Cooper's salary and he turned it down. If that is true, it's as damning a mark against this franchise as there can be.

OK... 16.5 of long-term hires, and one short. Got it.

We do not know all of the reasons for Trotz's decision, but misfit roster and barely warm leadership most likely played their role

AV also had long tenures before getting hired here. He lasted 147 regular season games before getting fired.

He coached 7 years in Tampa, 5 years in NY, and 6 years in Columbus. The short shelf life thing is a myth.

I agree with the rest for the most part.

Per Charlie O’Connor’s latest article, “Basically, the goal for next season is to be back in the playoff hunt — not necessarily make it (though that would be the hope), but to at least be in the mix. Then, the Flyers believe, they can continue to chip away at the situation from there. Make trades, draft well, bring up prospects and slowly but surely construct a contender.”

Comical. They are oblivious to getting one of the potential franchise players in the 2023 draft.

Give me a break. If the reports are accurate he turned down being the highest paid coach in the NHL. If he signs with either of those juggernauts Winnipeg or Detroit for less money it will look even more laughable. That won't happen though right?

lol - I'm sure there would've been multiple dynasty level runs in those decades. They're sure of it, too. Just ask them.

Expectations...pure and simple. He will want to see if he will be the anchor like most say he is/will be, not just...but but but he plays a lot of minutes guy.

Short Shelf life? He spent 7 years with Tampa, 5 with New York, 1 With Vancouver and 6 with Columbus. His average is well above short shelf life.

I prefer to wait and see where he goes and what his deal incudes before making an assessment.
