they wanted Trotz but he passed - PLindbergh31
did you know that Trotz isn't ready to make a decision and he is taking his time? If you actually knew anything about the sport of hockey you'd know this. The Flyers wanted an answer cause they wanted to move on one way or the other. - Phillywhiteout

Give me a break. If the reports are accurate he turned down being the highest paid coach in the NHL. If he signs with either of those juggernauts Winnipeg or Detroit for less money it will look even more laughable. That won't happen though right? - PLindbergh31
Maybe he wants more than cash. And maybe he'd take less cash to get those other things.

Not sure what you mean here. Debrincat will be traded. It is only a question of when. As for TK, yea he isnt really a fit given debrincat is younger and better player. Its gonna be prospect and pick. I would probably avoid such deal. The flyers cant afford to part with prospects or a 1st - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Chicago isn't trading him for a future that could be a 40 goal scorer, they already have it then and still young. They are not trading him for a defenseman...they paid a lot for their #1 stud. Maybe a goaltender, but who is out there? Now if Debrincat was 27-28 years old about to be a UFA then it makes sense. Maybe it's about saving money...well they have 21 million coming off the books next year and nothing to sell to their fans.

I'm very happy with the Tortorella hire. Can't wait to tune in to the post-game pressers.
Flyers management is still at sea, but we knew that. It isn't changing anytime soon. We are a day closer to Fletcher Bias For Action Moves. |

They offered Trotz double John Cooper's salary and he turned it down. If that is true, it's as damning a mark against this franchise as there can be. - PLindbergh31
It isnt a mark at all. Trotz is picking a location that works for his family. I dont know that WPG is still in it but that would likely be his 1st choice. Money isnt everything.
7 mill is nice but if Trotz doesnt feel he can turn this team around, why would he sign here. The goal of every coach is to win a cup. He interviewed with the Flyers 3 times. His decision wasnt based on on the organization as a whole. It was based on the fact other teams are a better fit. If he didnt have interest in signing with the Flyers, he wouldnt have interviewed 3 times, one of which was an im person interview. You dont travel across the country for a job interview you have no intention of accepting.

Agreed! Torts is being brought in to fix the team and give it structure. After he does that, another coach will be brought in to make a run for the cup. - WhiskeyMan
Hence the exact amount of 4 years....past history shows that at least. Year 2 is normally when he gets a star player...we shall see if that happens.

That tweet by Dubinsky about ‘ pray for the Flyer players’ is being characterized as a grudge tweet against Tortorella. I tend to think it’s humor. Dubinsky is Torts’ prototypical player playing for him in NY and CLB and thriving both times. - Minnyhock
I can confirme they know each other well, when Torts arrived in Columbus Duby was his eyes and ears in the locker room.
As for Torts , if you're a player you either love him or hate him, he can squeeze every once of talent out of his bottom 6 guys. In contrast he will expect intense backchecking even from the guys who are earmarked goal scorers , hence the frustration of Laine and a few others. As for goaltending , I hope Hart is strong minded ...

Im just telling you he is pretty much gone. Many people have stated Debrincat is on the move. Just google his name and many well known sources have him being moved this off season

ok cool. Can't wait for Gaudreau to take that home town discount to play in Philly. Afterall it's not about money like you just said. |

Maybe that will help Hart out or finally give others a shot to compete. Tired of the handed starter job throughout the years and not giving others a shot to push the rest.

the point has always been that there are way better options for trotz than the flyers and for him to choose the flyers, yhey would have to grossly overpay. They tried and he still said no

I do not for the life of me get why people think Provorov will be in Torts doghouse. - MBFlyerfan
Because the folks who post that drivel don't think. They have kewpie dolls they like to stick pins in and just transfer those feelings to Torts. The same is true for the TK hate. We'll see what he makes of them.

He coached 7 years in Tampa, 5 years in NY, and 6 years in Columbus. The short shelf life thing is a myth.
I agree with the rest for the most part. - MBFlyerfan
Shelf life in terms of players tuning him out. Not in terms of the actual years coached in each organization. Players get tired of his mantra pretty quickly. He’s a quick infusion of energy that dies off quickly. |

I think there is something to this. Someone with options looks at the lay of the land and says "pass" even after being offered a pile of money. That is not a good fact for any sports franchise (or business). Still, I think Torts will do well and the fact that the ownership set up a selection structure that was either independent or did not rely entirely on the GM to pick him tells me that he will have some independence from Chuck. I think that tension over control will help the Flyers as Torts will call it like he sees it.

Getting Fantilli, Michkov or Bedard should be the goal of all non playoff teams.
What will that playoff-hunting pride do for you year after next?
At least you TRIED in a year where you KNOW you are flat out not good enough. |

Bill any idea how much if any say Torts will have on the roster construction?
Is torts like AV in the sense he will let it be known what type of players he wants/likes. - hello it's me 2050
Yes, Torts will want input on his roster. |

Does Chuck get to make another one of these statements? - Feanor
“ We are extremely excited to have Alain join this franchise and lead our team behind the bench for many years to come," said Fletcher. " He brings a tremendous amount of success over an extended period of time that will prove valuable to our team to take the next steps in returning the winning culture to the Philadelphia Flyers organization."

What Flyers beat reporter is going to play the role of Larry Brooks? Need that for entertainment value with all the losing.
I fear it will just be one softball lobbed after another to Tortorella. - PLindbergh31

On a brighter note, nobody is accusing anyone of being on “team negative” anymore. Everyone is now a full fledged member. |
