You will get significantly more for Miller if you trade him with a full year of his current cap hit. Imagine Vancouver hanging on to him only for him to get injured in February, and then walking in the summer, that would be disasterous.

Trade him now, but make sure the 1st rounder you get back is for next year

That would be the best outcome

That would be good value. Top talent in the draft. Could see him fall into the 2nd honestly. Russian organizations really screw the kids.

This whole league is about young players that are cost controlled, preferably on ELC's and outperforming those deals. Signing a player, no matter really how good he is, over 30 is playing with fire.

There’s obviously a few teams that have multiple second-round picks and it’ll be interesting to see who the players are that are picked tomorrow,” said Allvin. “If our staff believes there are good ones early in the second round, we might have to look at it.”

It’s important if we’re going to be a better club here moving forward. We need to hit outside the first round — that’s a difference-maker,” said Allvin. “Good teams are able to find players in the later parts of the draft. Because of the uncertainty with some of the players who haven’t been playing as much over the last couple of years, hopefully, we’ll be able to find something in the mid to late rounds. They’ll take some time and eventually become a Canucks player.”

So in other words, you wouldn't bet. Boqvist did just sign a 3 year extension with Clb after you said he would never play an nHL game.😆

And I’m glad we didn’t draft him. Should have taken my boy Dobson. More than half the teams won’t draft a Russian in any round. I suspect no Russian, that isn’t already in North America, will be drafted today

I am fine having a very good player, like Miller, signed for 5 years or so, if the team was about to be a contender, if they had some organizational, if they had a legit 3rd and 4th line, if they had better puck distributors, if they had a better defense and if they had prospects that were close to being nhl ready.

But they don't.

Whining?
The world is a little different at that moment there Mini, You might not see that from the Utopia of Manitoba.
I'm not saying don't draft any Russians this year,
I'm not saying don't draft any Russians ever.
I'm saying why, at 15 OA when there are many other choices to take, would you risk taking a Russian player in this political climate, that is over there, and getting limited ice time like Podz did?
Why risk a possible public relations hassle if he can't come over? Why even have to field these questions all. Draft a D man and call it good.
And remember I was one of a few that was calling for Nichuskin to be a Canuck when he was still Dallas property, so don't try and paint me as some anti-Russian guy...
My wife is Russian!

Probably shouldn’t draft any Canadian kids then either.

TSN: Darren Dreger on the Vancouver Canucks

“Ongoing speculation for months now on the future of J.T. Miller. Has there been momentum on the trade front? Well, the interest is high in J.T. Miller. You gotta wonder whether or not an extension would be attached to that if you’re getting maximum return back to the Vancouver Canucks.

This is a breeding ground for that type of transaction. So, we’ll keep a close watch on that.”

It will be the most interesting part of the draft. There will be more busts in the draft than the Yakupov draft. One of the reasons I’m fine with Ohgren as he is boring but has a high ceiling

It's not really a question of 'like'. Most folks know how valuable Miller currently is to the club. I just don't think this massive 'haul and return' for Miller is there at Present. 2023 is a WAY better draft might be best just to hang on to JT until next years TDL if the club is out of it. Regardless no amount of picks or players will satisfy the majority here. The 'full rebuild' group wants the Kings ransom for Miller which is fine if we get it...but then will whine about the 2-4 year process to get the club back up to speed. Either way...we're screwed lol
- LordHumungous

There won't be much whining about not getting a big haul for Miller one way or another. The TDL already proved that. People were doing the same thing.... the list of bodies going out and picks coming in was ongoing for weeks up to the TDL. Predictions how differently things would be done compared to when Benning was still in charge were many. It was argued that returns were going to be better at TDL compared to summer(I argued otherwise) A change of philosophy was predicted... statements about not being delusional about the state of the team were made. (frank) all happened other than the team getting softer to play against... players held onto for "the run"... Then the narratives changed and the excuses started flowing.... Benning was blamed.

Expect the same thing if Miller remains or the return is underwhelming... team will be the same expect a little softer than Benning's team. Spin cycle will be on just like at the TDL.

They’re certainly at a disadvantage (from one perspective). European/Russian kids have the opportunity to play in professional leagues if they’re good enough, while Canadian kids have to make the jump straight to the NHL or back to junior. Hell, if drafted out of Europe an 18 year old kid can even play in the AHL. Stupid double standard.

But, I was referring to how rapey Canadian kids are, thus avoiding a public relations nightmare…
