Ok I’ll end with this take then. I’m just quite disappointed no bold moves by Van 1st round of draft.
If we were a Miller away from contending, then fine I’m all for keeping …. 99 pts is nothing to sneeze at. But we are so far off, I argue farther off than most think because demmer is so good. We won games we had no business winning last year dokey because of him. Yes your goalie is part of your team, but he looked fatigued down the stretch when we had those last meaningful games keeping the playoff dream alive. He was overworked a big chunk of the year.
So I was hoping for some bold moves, a bunch of picks, something. Heck we’re probably 2 or 3 years away from finding hughes a D partner that allows him to be close to the player he was with tanev. Sigh, oh well I guess there’s free agency … a time historically Van thrives (haha that’s not fair to new regime, some jadedness there) - Sayros
Aren’t draft picks for next year better?! By most accounts yes. I think if the deal wasn’t strong enough you wait, would have loved Dobson though |

Great pick by the Canucks, kid was ranked 8th overall or something like that. - LeftCoaster
Fantastic pick. I hate the fact we have a small soft team as much as anyone other than Reuby. But you gotta go BPA. Canucks had him ranked 5 and we know another team had him at 4 (Mackenzies poll of 10 teams). You can’t pass on that. They just gotta trade one of the other, less skilled smurfs for some D.
Also suuuuper surprised Lambert fell 20 spots |

I don’t really get why 5’11 175 is undersized for a 17 year old. I think you guys are over exaggerating about this one due to previous picks

Earlier Donna said Yurov would still be there at 80. I bet him leaving HB if he went earlier. Donna too scared to take the bet though. - manvanfan
I don’t make bets I know I can’t win jackass. He did fall a lot like predicted |

Boeser will be a pending UFA when this kid is getting close to being an NHLer. |

Elmeri Laakso, Elias Pettersson, Kasper Kulonummi, Artyom Duda, Liam Steele, and Jack Sparkes are some 4th-7th round options.
Maybe move up for Noah Warren in the second?
Will they take a risk on the excellent skating Vladimir Grudinin out of Russia?
Lots of options!
Trade down and get all of them in the 7th round. |

Rutherford doubts the Canucks can get a 2nd round pick today, prices are expensive but expects to get good players in rounds 3 and 4. |

Rutherford on Miller situation : It is not frustrating, we may never get it done or maybe he re-signs. There is a good chance he may be at camp. |

I just feel that we've done this song and dance before with Gillis and then Benning being all excited to grab a player that slid down the board by other teams who had issues with the player's size, skill, IQ or personal life and inevitably they either bust or turn into farm fodder.
I've never been an advocate of straight grabbing BPA, just because there's never a guarantee you can trade your surplus for your areas of need. - DariusKnight
So, by that logic you must have been pretty happy when Benning picked Juolevi over Matt Tkachuk.
Lekkerimakki is the consensus best pure goal scorer of this draft but is 3+ years away from the NHL. Stiil growing and muscle to build.
Can’t believe the overreaction to one pick so far. We need top 4 RHD sooner than 3 years from now. That will have to come from trades or free agency.
ps… I would have preferred we pick Joakim Kemmel. But happy with Lekkerimaki. |

Jarmo Kekkalainen has rebuilt the CBJ prospect pool in a hurry.
CBJ has
Young goalie Tarasov
Young defensemen Werenski, Boquist, Bean, Svozil, Jiricek, Ceulemans, Mateychuk and Richard.
Young forwards, Johnson, Sillinger,Marchenko, Texier and Foudy.
I am probably missing a couple but I am sure you get my point, quality and quantity |

But he hasn’t done it in six months, and he’s the one who went all in and lost his #1 goalie and top line goal scorer for nothing.
Agree though, he’s done a decent job of retooling. Not afraid to break some eggs. |
