This would be unreal.

Well it's a good prospect and a mid 1st rounder. And drafting 2 D, 1 with the offence and another with the giraffe genes.

So Miller isn't worth a good prospect and a 1st that is about the same position that the 1st the Canucks paid for him?
- carsonagenic

Woah woah woah! I didn’t say that but what you’re proposing is a 5th oa and a 12th oa, was Benning hired as an advisor in Columbus. Maybe they’ll take OEL and Garland for a top 10 pick and a 2nd,
All I said was you’re going to be disappointed with the return.

Have a feeling the presumed Miller return is going to be very underwhelming.

🚨🚨🚨****Dance Trigger Warning****🚨🚨🚨

On the Juolevi Selection:

Benning - “In a perfect world we’re going to take the best player in the first round,” Benning said, although he ultimately couldn’t hide his true intentions, “but in a perfect world, we’d like to take a D-man.”

"The club was offered a trade down by the Carolina Hurricanes, who owned two first-round picks (13th and 21st overall)."

"In 2016, the club had a rookie amateur scouting director in Judd Brackett and the process wasn’t robust enough to challenge the conventional wisdom dictated from the very top of the hockey operations pecking order. Yet.

When Linden himself examined what led to the Juolevi pick in retrospect, he concluded that the club required a more stringent process."

Pettersson vs Glass:

"Here’s what I can say with a reasonable degree of confidence, having discussed the matter repeatedly with various principals who were involved at the time:

- Benning thought the club had Glass ranked too low. He pushed hard ahead of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft for Glass’ position on the Canucks’ draft list to be re-examined.
Glass never actually moved past Pettersson on the Canucks’ list. This is factual and not contested, although there is still disagreement over whether Benning pushed for Glass to be ranked ahead of Pettersson over the course of these heated debates. Some insist he did, others dispute that account.

- Linden was more involved in the draft process in 2017 than he had been in 2016. Linden was intent on making sure more voices were heard and that the debate was more vigorous. Various principals insist that without Linden’s involvement, the pick would’ve been Glass, although that portion of this account is contested by some principals involved."

On the Hughes Selection:

"In an alternative universe, for example, where Detroit had done the obvious and selected Hughes, Vancouver’s next man up on the list wasn’t Filip Zadina. Instead Noah Dobson, Oliver Wahlstrom and Adam Boqvist were in the mix for Vancouver with the seventh pick if Hughes hadn’t fallen serendipitously into their lap. The pick would’ve been Dobson, based on the status of their list."

On the Podkolzin Selection:

"There was a standing offer from the Coyotes, who were desperate to jump up the draft order and select Victor Soderstrom.

The offer was the 10th overall pick for the 14th overall pick and the 45th overall pick, an exact match with a deal that the Coyotes subsequently made with the Philadelphia Flyers who owned the 11th overall pick that year.

Vancouver considered the matter seriously. There was a belief that a couple of players high on their list — Peyton Krebs and Alex Newhook — would be available four picks later."

"Ultimately the Canucks decided to wait. There were some key voices within the front office that wanted to see how the draft board shaped up ahead of them, with defensemen Philip Broberg a target of particular interest."

"It was only at the last minute that the decision was made to just make the pick. Podkolzin became a Canuck, as opposed to Newhook and Samuel Fagemo, who would’ve been at the top of Vancouver’s list with the picks they would’ve acquired in the trade down."

On the Hoglander Selection:

"Throughout that season, Canucks area scout Patrik Jonsson — who passed away this past fall, but was a family friend and longtime skills coach of Höglander’s — had pounded the table about Höglander. He’d sent clips to key organizational decision makers of Höglander’s games, his ability to win puck battles. He vouched for his character and work ethic at length.

And Jonssson succeeded. By draft day, the Canucks had Höglander ranked in the late teens on their draft board, well inside the first round.

The extent to which Jonsson succeeded, however, became completely apparent after Day 1 of the draft. That night, as Canucks amateur scouts met to discuss the list, Benning himself began to question the list.

There was a defender that was still available, who the club had ranked ahead of Höglander: Kaedon Korczak. Benning was fond of the player, but insisted that Höglander had more upside. The club needed defensive help and if Höglander was available when Vancouver’s turn snaked back around, they surely had to take him."

So a good prospect shouldn't really matter where he was drafted. What if the prospect was killing it and was drafted in the 2nd round? And the 12 OA in what supposedly isn't the best draft (or so we are told). Miller cost us a 1st (20OA) and a 3rd and a depth goalie. Ya I have been told that doesn't matter now, but still, Miller wasn't a PPG player over 3 years at that point either. You are right, I will probably be disappointed, but most things the Canucks have done have disappointed me over the years, one way or another.

5th oa & 12th oa >>> than 20th oa, 3rd rounder and a depth nobody
+ Columbus is collecting picks and rebuilding properly.
I agree though, Canucks have disappointed most.

Yes 5th and 12th are better.... But you forgot that Miller has a value, and it is way higher as well then the original 20 OA, 3rd, and Darth depth.

Most of Van media want Liam Ohgren @15

With Cam Robinson ranking him at 8 and Canucks army in love with him.

The right thing to do is to pick him up in the 3rd round.

You think he will be available with their 80th pick? Decent chance he is gone before 15

Bob's poll of scouts have him ranked at 21. Would he be there at 80th, no. Is that where I would take him with the picks the Canucks have, yes.

He is a late riser. Bobs list don’t mean much. It’s 10 teams out of 32

Back in the day, when he was with The Hockey News, it was a very good source, as he did a scout from half the teams in the league, nowadays, although still good information, his list isn't as accurate as it once was.

I thought Benning was gone?

Pagnotta said on 650, Canucks have a 8 year offer on the table for Miller but it's trending towards a split.
