Seems like a very fair value contract for DeAngelo. After losing Hamilton last year and DeAngelo this year, CAR has lost a lot of high end offensive production at the RD position. |

Awful move by CAR. 2 x $5M? That's good value.
Now I remember why Wadell was run out of town as the Thrashers GM |

Be positive since all three of the flyers picks you got will be high end star players. That would be the flyerest thing ever.

Tony is as one-dimensional as a player can be on the back-end. Glad to be rid of him. |

Sure but 2 years and $10m is very reasonable for 18-20 minutes/game for an offensively productive RD in his prime. |

the problem is that if you're playing him that much per game he's overslotted.
he was only able to play that much in Raleigh because Slavin covered for him. Even with Slavin, there were a ton of defensive breakdowns and it got worse as the season went on.
You play him on the 3rd pair and on the PP and you're fine. Give him more than that and you've got a problem on D which, despite their reputation, the Hurricanes absolutely did last season.

He is what he is. He's played 18-20 effectively every season and produces at an elite rate at ES. CAR has great blueline depth, but most teams would benefit with him on that contract. |

Why is that? Pesce and Bear I figure can perform well as the top 4 RDs. I never like Skjei and always thought he never should have been acquired. Overall, the team defense for CAR has been strong for years now. |

So took a reclamation project. Got great production. Flipped him for 3 picks. Excellent.
Also all the talking heads are suggesting 2023 is such a deep draft that the 3rd round picks are like a second in value in other drafts. So thats good news.
You guys can have Justin Holl for RD. Just trade me the 2023 3rd round pick lol |

One of the best ways to cash in as a RHD is to play on the backend paired with Slavin for a season. I am not upset with the trade or the return.
There are holes to fill on defense that I am not sure is in the system at the level that is needed. I am still hoping they find a trade partner for Gardner. |

Canes drafted too many Russians which is a risk in the current world stage. How many are going to be told they have been drafted into the military to keep them in Russia and in the KHL? |

Remains to be seen. That really only applies to players at SKA and CSKA (for now).
