My point is that the islanders lack a pure goal scorer/sniper. Romanov isn’t a BIG move either is JGP. Those are solid moves. My point is he needs to get a true goal scorer and this team will be back in the playoffs and can contend - Joey1724
Oh, ok, so the only big move Lou can make is what you think the team needs?
You give up a first round pick, that’s a pretty big move. You move multiple picks, that’s a pretty big move. Do I think we need a sniper? Yes, absolutely! I’ve said it the last couple years. I’ll see what Lou does and how the team starts the season before judging this off season.
And by the way, making trades in the NHL isn’t like a video game. We have no idea what Lou tried to do. I mean, there’s speculation that he went after Miller. |

Funny this is I don’t piss and moan like you said with everything. So for me wanting a true goal scorer/sniper it’s an always piss and moan. Hahaha - Joey1724
No it’s funny that since Lou has taken over this team in 4 years has had more success than this franchise has seen since the dynasty and Lou needs to do something and make a big move.
You go and get that goal scorer but trade away the grit, defense, depth and character to get it your taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
I would love you to tell me the pure goal scorer you want and what you’re going to give up to get it. Being honest love to hear it.
BTW JGP was a huge move. Lou addressed a huge hole this team had at the time and it has paid off. |

Would you prefer the status quo as far as the top 6? Or is it just accepting that most likely, nothing is going to happen? - Cptmjl
I’ve said it a bunch of times that I think we need a real sniper. I’m also used to nothing happening though.

The free agent list is shrinking as players resign with their own teams. Johnny hockey, I think, it’s the biggest name out there. |

My main point is if they get a true goal scorer/sniper with the currently constructed team then I feel they can contend with anyone outside the Avs who are amazing. - Joey1724
Oh well you and I agree there. If Lou can add a pure sniper to the existing team I’m all for it. The reality is he can’t. There is a little issue called the Cap and there’s no way you add a sniper to the team without losing some of the current rostered players. That said you’re not getting a snipper trading Bailey, AB and non proven players.
What would you want back if someone asked you for Barzal? |

Cap makes it extremely hard for contenders to sign free agents away from another team. Contenders usually are the ones having Cap issues.
The Cap doing its job. I hate it! |

So I’m seriously interested Ses, what is a proposed big deal you are looking at in terms of players, picks given up for player/players coming back? - nyisles7
If Isles are in win now mode I would look at Tarasenko. Bailey, Wally or Beau, Wilde or Bolduc and a #2. Rather not give up a #1 if it can be helped. Maybe this does not get it done but worth a try if Tarasenko has a NTC and willing to go to the Isles. It's not a knock on Lou with fans looking to improve the team. The two long playoff runs were very nice but also very frustrating losing to Tampa twice. Many fans rather not see the Isles missing out on the Cup because the offense could not get it done in a big spot. |

I think if you want to package Bailey, Tito and a prospect for a high end sniper, you would need to sweeten it with draft picks. So if you’re going all in to win now, you might be sacrificing the future. But what do I know, I’ve never been an NHL GM. Only an Internet one. |

I agree, but that might have had to do with Trotz’ system. Maybe Lambert will let the horses run a little more. Perhaps that will lead to more offense and more goals. Also, the power play needs to improve, imo. |

I would love Tank.
Of course we all want the Cup! The Rags had one of the best offenses and PPs in the league and they lost to the Bolts as well.
You also have to give the Bolts kudos for stopping the Islanders offense.
If you look back at the games in both ECF’s The scores were relatively close with total goals scored equally as close.
I think the second half of last year the Isles were much better offensively 5v5 and on the PP. I think a healthy Lee had a lot to do with that and the emergence of Dobson driving the play from the blue line and finding his game. Nelly potted ~ 40 and honestly Barzal, JGP, AB and others had bad years. I think if they start where they left off last year we will be ok.
That said if you can add a top wing or center ( Miller would have been nice) with not trading the core I’m all for it. |

I would love Wally and Beau to make in house solutions then a trade would not be needed. The problem is the Isles have had trouble bringing along young forwards. Trades are exciting and good for the sport but very difficult with the Cap and because the Isles lack of high end prospects. If the Isles have faith in the defense and goalies, they are going to have to open things up some. Very difficult to get to and Win a Cup on a system and just relying on defense.

I could care less about the future if you get a chance to get that Cup. However if a team is trading a legit high end scorer they want something good on return. Unless your a non contender looking to hit the spending floor.
I love internet GM’s ! |

Most fans are reasonable and if the Isles 1st line was a real strength the fans would not be looking for a deal. The Isles top 6 is a question mark and can continue to hold the team back from getting to the Cup. Hopefully Lambert can unlock the offense in case an impact forward is not acquired.
Full marks to Tampa but getting shutout twice and especially that 7th game the Isles could not generate anything was brutal. To get so close twice in a row is painful and it's very difficult to get back. Miller would have been nice.

I think we need a big-time sniper as well. Not gonna argue that. Maybe Lou thought that Palms would fill that role. Maybe he thought Wally would step up to that role. I don’t know. The only one who does is Lou. But since we went to the ECF’s 2 years in a row (and zero times under Snowballz), I’ll see what Lou does. - Isleshockeyman
Palmieri may yet prove to be that sniper.
Personally, I think this is the year he returns to form. Injuries fully rehabbed after a long offseason, and no lingering effects from covid or an insanely long road trip. |

Sucked losing to them twice I agree.
Fact is Tampa didn’t win until they learned how to take care of the house imho. |

Unless the Blues are desperate to trade Tarasenko, I don't think a package of 5 mediocre players/prospects gets it done. I think as fans we tend to overrate our guys; realistically, I don't think the rest of the league gets excited by any of those guys you mentioned. In fact, if you offered Bailey with his $5 million cap hit and high hockey IQ to another team for a bag of pucks, they'd probably want some draft picks for those pucks, too. |

I think you underestimate the demand for Bailey! He has his own goal song!
It amazes me how desperately Islander fans want him gone, yet completely overvalue his return. |

It's not good if other teams do not value our talent especially if we expect players like Beau and Wally to help this year. It's very funny how Bailey is seen and treaded by the Isles and he has such low value elsewhere. Maybe the Isles overrate the players? Hopefully the Isles bounce back this year. Another disappointing regular season and those two long playoff runs will be written off as a fluke.

The thing that scares me is if it’s status quo and Barzal’s linemates are flip flopped every 15 games then is he going to tolerate that or want out? Rumor has it he had a riff with Trotz. I’d be shocked if he’s ok with so many different linemates at times. You give Barzal a true scorer and you can maximize his talents. |

It’s not a rumor Joey. Barzal got Barry fired!
I read it on the internet.
Honestly I would like to see Barzal make the players around him better like most teams #1C. Instead of him needing a snipper to make him better. JT did it with retreads off the scrap heap. Barzal needs to step up this year and become that super star everyone says he is. That would certainly help with the offense on this team imho. He’s capable of it and scoring 100+ points.
If he wants out then you can trade him for your snipper |

As our Qualifying Offer Calculator displays, Strome’s QO would have been $3.6M (one-way)
No QO means he instead will become a UFA on July 13 free to sign with any team
Thoughts? |

He's a center. Teams that need like NYR, COL, WSH, BOS are going to fight for him. |
