Has anyone seen the article about Nino Niederreiter being tied into the Islanders ?
I know it’s a rumor but this one is a surprise.

I've heard minor talk here and there, but at this point I think they're either going to swing for the fences for Gaudreau or Kadri and have to move out salary OR just keep the forward group as-constructed.

There won't be much money left over to do anything of note after signing Dobson and Romanov unless they trade someone.

Purely my opinion here, but if they can't land Gaudreau or Kadri...I'd rather they just do nothing. Keep a little bit of cap space and, if there is a need, they'll have flexibility at the deadline. Overpaying a mid-level UFA like Niederreiter/Burakovsky/Palat/Trocheck/etc... would seem like a desperation move to me. Just doing something for the sake of doing it.

I'd also buyout Martin and/or trade Johnston, if there's a market for him. But that's just me.

I don't expect either one of my personal opinions to be particularly popular ones, but they're going to have to start looking down the line to Barzal's extension next summer and Sorokin's the summer after that.

I agree if they miss for a big item it may be better not to overpay for an average FA. I would still keep Ross and play him more over Martin.

Do you know how many people on here would sh!t a chicken if Lou didn't land a big name free agent? I agree with you though. Go big or stand pat.

I suspect a lot of Isles fans would lose their marbles if Lou didn't do anything

But overpaying mid-level UFA's is a one-way ticket to cap hell and I don't think anyone else out there is going to join the Islanders and make them a significant contender

But yeah...swing for the fences or exercise some restraint and plan to swing for the fences at some point down the line

If Lou can’t get Gaudreau, then get Domi and Garland. Cause they’d make the Isles/Rags rivalry oh so much more fun.

The Islanders totally need a $8M RHD when they already have 3 RHD
