For a player like Larsson, I’d hope what we have free should be enough to sign him. If that’s the case, I’m a little nervous about the contract

I'd assume it is roster spot related not cap related.

We're currently over the cap $191,842 haha

Edit:Not sure why Archibald and Cagg are up on the big roster though

That's not counting what we are paying Kapanen. Currently we are over by at least $1M.

Not that it's a big deal, it isn't. It only proves more moves are coming.

Speaking of which, Marino is our youngest, most mobile defenseman. If we move him it better be for a top line wing.

Now seeing NJ’a offer was over $11M annually, if that’s true how the hell do you choose CBJ over that

But would it really be a good idea to give up that defenseman for another forward. Like is Geno better off upgrading from Zucker if the trade off is he plays with Ruuta instead of Marino.

Depends on the winger I guess. Is Marino really that much better than Rutta?... I'm not so sure he is. I will say though the Marino I saw in these last playoffs was the Marino we have wanted since his rookie season. He was awesome most of those 7 games.

You know, I was thinking about something funny with yesterday's signings...

Gudbransson got signed to his way too large contract with Columbus and then right after that the Pens signed Rutta to that contract. I am 100% confident that we were in on Gudbransson and then Columbus just outbid them so they circled back to a deal with Rutta. Yes I'm being presumptive but:

A) I would have been ok with Gud on the same contract as Rutta but boy I'm glad we didn't chase that one.

B) I think that would further cement the fact that they are not trading Marino unless it is for an upgrade at 2RD. No way would they have been bringing in Gud to play those minutes and I don't think they brought Rutta in to either.

The way I see it is the bottom 6 sucks pretty bad. Geno is bound to be out for sometime as well as any other top 6.....Then what? I think Malkin needs much more support to be effective at this point. Geno and Malkin miss a lot of time. So IDK, I think it would be ideal if you can move Dumo or Pets for space then sign a UFA. Marino+ could net a nice return but at a costs.

I believe Rutta was paired with Hedman last season, so he had 1st pair matchups. With Pens he wouldn't be 1st pair, so more favourable matchups.

Their numbers are pretty similar last season with Rutta a bit better in most metrics. He was getting more O zone starts than Marino with Marino getting more D zone starts than him.

Rutta is a significant step down from Marino.

Statistically I didn’t see Marino being more than a fringe NHLer. I tend to ignore the stat nerd view on prospects now. That Seider guy only had top 4 upside.

I’ve seen Rutta play a lot. Think of a less physical Ceci. That’s what you’re getting.

Yeah I don't think Rutta is great or anything just don't think "significant" downgrade from Marino... Who has been pretty pedestrian for long stretches since his great rookie campaign.

I watched pretty much every Tampa playoff game, and of course every single Pens playoff game, small sample I know, and both those guys looked great for their respective clubs.

Quiet day.

Waiting for a Pens sign Milano or Heinen news.

Trade Dumoulin/Zucker to MTL for Dvorak/Petry.

Trade Pettersson/Kapanen for Garland or Boeser.

We’d be set to go.

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Garland (or Boeser)-Malkin-Rakell
Milano (or Heinen)-Dvorak-Carter

Nothing of this is a crazy deal. Small pieces being thrown to round it out.

I think people here need to lower their expectations. Hextall isnt going to make a million trades to carefully construct the roster with guys he wants. Rutherford would, and would likely create a new problem for every problem he fixes, but I dont see Hextall wheeling and dealing.

I see a trade or two. He doesnt have a lot of leverage since everyone knows we have to move somebody on defense. I would then expect another forward or two. I really like Milano and I dont think he's out of the range of reasonable targets.

With Rutta I would point to this

Last 3 seasons 5v5

With Hedman - 54% HDCF

Without Hedman - 45% HDCF

And when he’s not with Hedman he had McD and Sergachev so it’s not like he was playing with bums.

Trading out 14m and RFA rights for 15m+ is pretty crazy.

Your scenario also leaves you with like 1 LD and 19 RD.
