Since we all know agents and teams talk before they're supposed to talk, it's possible if not likely Malkin wasn't getting better offers. Maybe a little better, but nothing that blew away what the Pens had on the table.

They talk about young guys that will have a chance at breaking the lineup in the fall and how they’ve progressed and then they go out and sign 4th line vets to one-way deals and don’t leave them any open roster spots to contend for. Archibald will play over guys like Zohorna, O’Connor, Poulin, Hallander, Nylander because he makes $900K and can’t be sent down without waivers. This is why Bjorkqvist left. Little chance to make the big squad.
