This is what the Pens do every year. They talk about young guys that will have a chance at breaking the lineup in the fall and how they’ve progressed and then they go out and sign 4th line vets to one-way deals and don’t leave them any open roster spots to contend for. Archibald will play over guys like Zohorna, O’Connor, Poulin, Hallander, Nylander because he makes $900K and can’t be sent down without waivers. This is why Bjorkqvist left. Little chance to make the big squad.

I wouldn’t say I’m excited about it, but he’s a nice non-sexy signing that will def help the bottom 6 and PK … I just had higher hopes for a forward upgrade so hope another move is in the works

Yeah the projected 4th line of Larsson-Blueger-McGinn is extremely similar in build as the ZAR-Blueger-Tanev line. They’re 100% trying to recreate that.

Except Larsson generates offense and scores. Not to mention ZAR is a UFA. They can re-sign him if they really wanted to recreate that.

Hex is making smaller low risk moves. Overall not terrible moves. Just wish we brought in some more youth like Steel or others previously mentioned

He said he’s trying to trade a D man for a forward or futures. He’s definitely trying to bring in another guy whether it’s by trade or clearing cap. Still a chance for an excellent offseason despite blowing cap on a mediocre bottom pairing d man depending on who he brings in and who’s traded to do so.

Hex said he can’t confirm Larsson but can confirm Archibald. Probably hasn’t been finalized yet or Friedman thought it was a done deal when it wasn’t

Guy wanted to go to Philly but the Flyers org is so inept they weren’t prepared for this eventuality and lit all their cap space on fire before he hit the market. Once Philly became a non option I think he just went for the biggest bag.
