Took a step back by making a lateral move in goal.
Sens sign a declining Giroux, but haven't upgraded on d - mr.peanut
well it's not impossible that Talbot becomes an upgrade over Murray, and their forward group is looking more solid, even with an aging Giroux his experience should come in handy.

Yeah, As KH said, really looking at what Stevie Y has done in Detroit as an example of how they want to push through... but just faster, I think. - Mashadar
I think Bergy knew his day's were counted as GM because of his many draft and development failures of the last decade.
There was no talent available from within the organization because of those draft failures so UFA's were the only way for him to keep the team competitive. He basically mortgaged the future (we have no cap space left) to save his job.
Unfortunately for him it didn't work ... Geoff Molson is not an idiot and he clearly saw what was coming ... a need for a complete rebuild and he didn't want the same people (Bergy and Timmins) in charge of that anymore. Thank God !!!
HuGo will now have to clean up the mess (bad contracts) they left behind ... and it will take a few years.

Talbot could be an upgrade over Murray, but now he inherits Chabot delivering pizzas up the ice for 30 minutes a game.
Oh well, we'll pretend they won the offseason and they can hang the banner next to all the cup banners they didn't win in the 1910s

What? - mr.peanut
only Leafers think they did not get worse in net.
and have they replaced Mikheyev? and that big russian on D?
overall they got worse. not better.
Sens got a lot better. so did DET btw.

Yep ... I'd say adding Debrincat, Giroux and Talbot makes them a tougher opponent now. They still need some help at D but overall they're better than they were at the end of the season.
As far as the Leafs go ... they went sideways at best.

Most Leaf fans think they got worse. I don't think it's a noteworthy downgrade, considering Campbell is 32, injury prone and just had a career half year. But alas, Professional Leaf Haters now say he's great, even though the Leafs were stupid to have him as their #1 last year according to the same people.
Mikheyev can be replaced. Very inconsistent and only produced with top 6 minutes.
Lybushkin, I was told by PLHs, was a 9th D. Unless he's playing with Dahlen or Power, he's the Coyote version again.
Yeah they both got better, but not 50 points better. Again, let them have their offseason flowers.

That's what I'm saying.
They lost: Spezza, Blackwell, Mikheyev, Lybushkin, Mrazek and Campbell and the sky is falling
