yeah I also saw those stats, the +/- isn't the most reliable data but it's a positive for sure.

prior to last season I don't recall being nervous very often when Petry had the puck in his own zone, but perhaps I'm overvaluing his defensive awareness for some reason.

- Pat1993

Petry had a poop year, obviously dealing with the off ice issues. He will do well in Pittsburg when he can just focus on hockey.

even better news. how much?
- fidopro

Who cares. He was a surprise add last season who I personally enjoyed watching. I'm guessing between min-2M.

Here's what Kent Hughes off-season looks like so far for the #Habs as they continue to create more cap space and flexibility for themselves:

IN
Evgeni Dadonov
Kirby Dach
Michael Matheson

OUT
Shea Weber
Alexander Romanov
Jeff Petry
Ryan Poehling

Result: +$4,982,143 in c/space

Dach needs a contract though.

- Mashadar

Not bad and Dadonov is 5 mil. off the books at the end of the seaon ... we're getting there.

So who will be that 1st pairing RHD?
- habs88888

your guess is as good as mine.
but Savard is a 3rd pairing d.
note that if the objective is to draft top5, having him play lots of minutes is not a bad thing.

I think he will be fine, serviceable, but won't replicate what Petry can bring, when on his game. Will play top 4 this year, and maybe next year, before the kids push him down the lineup.

Just surprised HuGo took back a fairly sizeable contract.

- Mashadar

I assume they had to, Pittsburg can’t have a lot of cap space with the resigning this year.

he was surely trying to avoid that but in the end I guess there weren't a whole lot of good offers to consider if this was the best return he could manage.

to be fair though even if his production isn't overly exciting he seems to be a pretty consistent player, which isn't a bad quality to have.

We probably didn't have any choice ... it's a well know fact around the league that Petry wanted out so we weren't dealing from a position of strength.

Leafs or not, 4x2.1M for 30 y/o 25 points is not a good contract.

Problem now is seeing David Savard as 1st pairing RHD yikes
- habs88888

It's perfect. Forwards make progress and have a good year while the dmen make sure they rack up the losses.

On an expansion team then limited role with CGY doesn't define him. Longer term to lower the cost and an easy contract to bury if needed

Lol, hard to do that if they can’t get out of the defensive zone.
