The real kick in the teeth is that he gave away Lindblom who is a MUCH, MUCH better player than ND (maybe that's not saying a lot but it's indisputably true) when they could have held onto him and moved him for value at the TDL. WTF is Chuck thinking? Or smoking?

Apparently Harvard didn’t have a “decision making 101” course or Bozo skipped it.

I remember they used to call Keith Allen, Flyers GM '69 - '83, Keith "The Thief" Allen because of his one sided trades that benefitted the Flyers. If he was a thief, then Fleeced Fletcher is like the grandma that keeps getting her purse stolen and has no idea what happened each time.

Scary how despite being dead since 2017, Razor would still be a better choice for a backup roll here....

Apparently there was a Deslauriers sweepsteaks….and the Flyers were very fortunate to win….just what we need, a one dimensional 31 year old who is not very good at anything beyond fighting and being a good locker room guy. Awesome. Fine on a 1 year 1.2 mill deal, but that contract is a joke….when you consider all the holes this team still has.

I thought he was supposed to be good on the PK?

I actually liked Attard’s game after his un even start. One of the bonus’s of being so bad was to get the kids in and have them get a feel for what the NHL is. I think his upside is still pretty high. I also like the idea of having him model his game after a guy like Cernak…if he can commit to that side of the puck, he could really turn out to be a very good top 4 d man who has all the tools. As far as making the team out of camp, he may need some time in the A, but he’s definitely one of the young guys I’m excited about.

What's so funny is this board always clamors for let the kids play let them learn here blah blah blah...They get here and play like someone thrown into the deep end of the pool and then its oh he sucks this and horrible that.
It is truly laughable.

Indeed. From Dave Scott down, this organization is directionless and incompetent. The fans, and now the media, are taking notice. One would think the half-empty seats would’ve caused these boobs to take notice. Instead, they sold us a bill of goods. Aggressive retool… either a lie or a monumental failure. PUTRID. Dave must go. Fletcher must go. Clean house and don’t expect a full stadium until there is a direction.

I think people more just want some consistency, obviously this kid was coming up from NCAA on a short stint, but if he spends a season or two in the AHL to get better on the defensive side. Then call him up and let him play. No one wants the Frost up down up down, it’s not good for the player.

I’m not sure what some expectations are when a kid comes up like that, but I saw a kid that could turn out to be a good one. Of course it’s baptism under fire….

A no trade clause on top of this absurd contract? Seriously.

What happened to the aggressive retool Scott and the Used car salesman promised?

Fletcher has managed to make a bottom feeder team worse than the year beforre. No cap space, while being non competitive is hard to do. Fletcher has managed to unite the entire fan base into hating this franchise.

@CapFriendly
Nicolas Deslauriers' contract with the #Flyers includes the following trade protection:
From July 13, 2022 to June 30, 2024 -
Modified No Trade (20 team trade list)

- PLindbergh31

But in reality, who would trade form him? Maybe CF and trade with himself

How in the world could he be given any movement clause when he bent Fletcher over the table on money and term?

Didn't you hear? Intense competition. Fletcher was forced to do whatever he had to do to get this key cog/core player in the Flyers rebuild.

It's all coming together (in Chucks mind).

Bill said it well, you don’t always have to be the guy that has the highest bid. Unreal where this organization stands as of today

If it was simply calling out a consistency issue on Attard last year i did not see that.
I saw no rope given that he was a college kid days before playing in the best hockey league in the world.
I remember adjectives like suck horrible terrible awful etc

If Emery doesn't get injured in that 2009-10 season the Flyers would have been the team lifting the silver chalice at the end of that season! They were invincible after coming back in that series against the Bruins and mauled the 8th seeded Habs. Outplayed the powerhouse Hawks for much of the Final series and certainly should have come away with a victory in game one of that series in Chi town. Leaky Leighton would not allow them to finish the job though. Imagine that, the Flyers goalie play costing them the Cup. FIRE CHUCK! Thanks!

I have to disagree, at least from my own standpoint. I’d love to see the kids play. I for Frost to get consistent playing time. Let the kids get experience, especially once we all knew the season was lost. My issue (and many others) is that there is no plan, no consistency. If Comcast and it’s Flyers minions would be honest with the fans and tell us that they are rebuilding then most of us could get behind it. They sold us on an aggressive retool and specifically said they were not rebuilding. Then they trade away all these assets (picks) for TDA, signs ND and JB, and then have the audacity to insult us by trying to intimate that the plan all along was to let the kids play. The team is stuck in purgatory right now. If it’s about the kids, trade away TK, Sandheim, Provy, Risto, don’t acquire TDA, add draft picks a prospects. Sign free agent fillers who have good leadership and can help the kids transition and learn, while they let the bad contracts slowly expire. Anyway, I’m just pissy as a Flyers fan. Sorry for the rant.

Hey Bill, I didn't get a chance to post this the other day but I thought your blog from 7/14 was excellent, and summed up pretty much what I have believed also better than I ever could. I was not in favor of singing JG because he is small and will lose a step or two over the life of the contract, and once that happens I believe the he will not be as effective and will probably be getting injured more. I also as you know am not a RR basher and I believe he is a better player than most give him credit to be. He will never be a top pairing guy, but I think he does give this team an element that they don't have and as Mike Yeo explained in one interview, no one wants to win more than Risto on the team. That can be infectious is a very good way.

However the thing that has bothered my about this off season is the seemingly lack of a plan from Fletcher. He seems to be all over the place and not in a good way. I do believe Fletcher was late in finding out that JG wanted to come to Philly and by the time he tried to react other teams were on to it and were holding the Flyers over a barrel. And when you look at the market for 2nd pairing physical defenseman, the RR extension was too high a price to pay IMO. Clearly Fletcher compounded the mistake of trading for RR with signing him to an overly priced extension. Then there is a DeAngelo trade. If Fletcher had properly read the market and stay connected as much as he claimed he was, he could have and should have had cap space available to jump on JG, but he spent is very unwisely IMO. This is why good teams always keep their cap space well managed so when the right player comes along they can pounce. You see it all over the league this free agent period, but alas the Flyers are on the outside looking in, getting retreads like Braun and another limited player to an ridiculous 4 year contract. Its very hard to make an argument that Fletcher deserves to keep his job at this point. Am I wrong?

Now if the plan all along was to tank for Bedard, then I am all in. Clearly looking at how much Carolina, Columbus and NJ have improved, its hard to think the Flyers will not be in last place again next season and in the running for the top overall pick.

No one wants to win more than Risto yet he re-signed here; doesn’t add up.

Fletcher knew all along JG wanted to come here and to think otherwise is foolish.

He is a very bad at his job.

How many players on the roster are “Fletcher guys” & how many are “Hextall guys”. I’m not saying Fletcher is great but this mess is 90% on Hextall screwing up this organization. Fletcher was handed a turd

We heard the same thing about CC for years & he takes the easy route & signs w Ottawa.

Who cares if he wanted to come here. He is exceptionally talented offensively no doubt & we need that but when we have so many similar players (small perimeter forwards) Cam, Bee, TK, Frost, Brink, throw in JVgarbage & it didn’t make sense to bring another in for crazy money & term albeit JG being the best of the bunch. Flush out what you have first
