Umm, its already public knowledge that Tkachuk provided a list of 5 teams he would sign a long-term deal with. You got St.Louis right. But your other 4 teams aren't on Tkachuk's list so they won't be trading for him. Ottawa and Toronto made zero sense anyway. |

Kevin Allen: Five NHL team that will, or should be, chasing Matthew Tkachuk
The Blues seem to be the favorite to land Tkachuk - Kevin Allen
St Louis makes sense. But the rest of your list not so much. Ottawa is just because of Brady but it doesn’t make a bit of sense beyond that. Toronto makes no sense as he wouldn’t likely sign long term there either. NYI don’t really have the pieces Calgary would want back. NJ makes some sense but only because they have a lot of pieces Calgary would want and the Fitz connection. But Matt is believed to be looking at a location in the south/west of the US. Who ever gets him will end up regretting it. |

Growing up with no cups I would say Ottawa and Toronto are perfect fits. |

I think NJ fans should get all hyped up that he is coming to Nj so they can suffer a second catastrophic blow to their hopes & dreams. |

It makes perfect sense for the Leafs to go after him, with Nylander part of a return package, for the reasons Ek stated. Does if happen? Highly doubt it for most of the reasons others have stated....will not sign long term....wants to be in the US....Leafs cap situation, etc.
Still.....Ek is not wrong when he says the Leafs are a team that should be trying to land him.

Don't underestimate Lou Lamoriello. He was interested in Gaudreau and we can imagine he would really be interested in landing Tkachuk. He has been working on clearing up cap space for Nazem Kadri. He must have some idea of how to make it work.
Not sure if you're implying a cognitive decline on Lou's part .... |

For sure. Doesn't make any sense to trade a 24 year old 27 goals scorer for a 24 year old 42 goal scorer.

So Thomas contract basically replaces Tarasenko starting next year. We would basically be picking Kyrou or Tkachuk moving forward. We would not be able to make both work beyond this year.

Don’t underestimate Lou Lamoriello?
How about don’t overrate Lou Lamoriello…
What trades and big time free agent signings has this legend in the minds of those who are still stuck in the late 90s? This game has passed Lou to the point where most question whether or not he even knows what’s going on anymore |

Lol the fans of other teams don’t but that’s leaf hate, not reality. I’m pretty sure the 25-year-old, 75 point winger, making under 6 million is attractive throughout the league. Also the leafs have paid 90% of his contract already and in real money he makes nothing the next two years. I guarantee you if Nylander was on your team you would not think the way you do, or probably any team that’s not the leafs.

He’s a cancer and will cost more in contract and trade assets than he’s worth. |

Jarry, Kapanen, Petterson, and a 1st
Jarry is a starter and has recently been an all star. Pens will have to pay up next season.
Kap is questionable but gives them a forward that isn’t overly costly and still young.
Petterson is pretty steady, decent price considering it’s long term.
Other than that, the Pens have too many NMCs to swap a Rust into that list. |

I’ve never gotten that from them. They were mad when he got paid, and the fans have been trying to package him for something ever since. |
