Well most of us that actually watch the games have already seen more than enough Rutta to know what he can and can’t do. |

Detroit isn’t going to carry 9 D so that isn’t happening. |

I do think Ruhwedel will be the odd man out unfortunately. |

For all the Rutta hate, many argued that we needed an upgrade on the 3rd defensive pairing when Ruhwedel took over. I mean Rutta has bumped up the Lightning pairings. He is an upgrade on the 3rd pairing. I do understand we could have spent that money elsewhere. We do tend to get defensemen and they seem to improve/respond to our coaching. So hopefully Rutta excels with us. As MattStrat has said Sully does roll with all 3 pairings during games. So if our 2nd and 3rd pairings can take some time from our top pairing that may help us later in the season. I know our bottom 6 isn't much improved from one season prior with any big names, but we also have yet to hit the ice to see how everyone plays together. I feel we are in a decent spot.
I guess you are correct on sending players down. I am hoping some of the younger guys play their way into the lineup this season. - 123Kid
Actually most said Ruhwedel is a perfectly fine at 3D, so I'm not sure where that comes from.

hahah I know for a fact he'll be under a microscope here all season long just like JJ and Matheson went through.
Please Rutta, clear the FN net or Rinosaur will be all over me during the season - Barnaby36
It's not that he'll be under the microscope, it's when Kap, Carter, McGinn go 25 games without scoring a goal, people are going to go "gosh, where can the Penguins get depth scoring from?" and everyone here is going to go "Well they could have gotten it had they not signed Rutta, Archi and Kap."

I remember the talk of a goalie, defenseman, and a top 6 winger as our trade needs. |

Right and goaltending and top 6 wing went unaddressed while the D was shuffled around with no clear upgrade and still costs the same amount. |

Yup, getting rid of the corpse of Dumo, Desmith, and replacing Zucker/Kap with a top 6 winger was the talk.

Idk Kap is my wildcard. 2 years ago when he played on Malkins wing he had 30 points in 40 games. I think they need to play him on the PK. Archibald really doesn't break the bank. Rutta I hated the signing much like everyone else. Now I have accepted the fact that everyone is on the team. So I hope the signings excel. I am kinda disappointed more so that we resigned Carter so early. I feel like we could have resigned him for less or bumped up Bluegar back to the 3rd line and made the 4th line a younger scoring line with some of the players we all mentioned as potential players to sign. Starting with Strome and Milano. |

Yes Kap did great in a half season shooting at a much higher shooting percentage than his career average. He’s your run of the mill skilled 3rd liner with poor decision making abilities. He just continues to get a pass by many because his last name and draft position. |

Only 13 of hits points came on the ice with Geno, while shooting at 18%.
He's a career 10-11% shooter.
The wildcard has become like a 8 of clubs now.

I'm hoping if he does get the bump up that he does well with Rakell/Rust and Malkin. Overall much like Feds is stating. I hope he does well on the 3rd line. Also plays on the PK for us. I'm not happy that he received 3 million from us, but he may have some value during the trade deadline next season. Plus I am glad he didn't make a salary over what he did one season prior. Again I'm hoping he performs better. I think Rakell should help bring a little more to the top 6.
If Zucker and Kap can be of any value at the trade deadline this season we hopefully can make a splash and be able to acquire a rental with a bigger cap hit. |

As Penguins fans, everyone is hoping that these players do well here lol but being able to give an objective point of view based on prior data is a lot more grounded than hopes and chances.

It's true. I'm just hoping he pulls an ERod and goes on a hot streak. He shows flashes that he has put it all together, even though it is brief. I was hoping last year when he looked amazing in Exhibition that it was finally his year. |
