I'd rather have him than Risto.
I nominate Chuck Fletcher for first man fired into the sun. - jmatchett383
Amazing you found a guy who is probably worse than the guy you fired. |

Man it being so quiet the last week except for the Kap signing is eerie. Too much JR style off seasons |

The most frustrating part of this offseason is that Hextall wasted a really good chance to reshape/retool this roster. He did the hard part. He successfully got Malkin/Letang/Rakell/Rust signed at lower cap hits than most people expected. That cap space alone resulted in millions of additional cap space most of us didnt expect (probably a good $4-5M).
I also like the Petry trade. I didnt mind Marino, but he wasnt living up to his contract. I think Petry is an upgrade over him. I wouldve preferred to keep Matheson, but I dont have a problem selling high on him.
The rest of his moves have been stupid. Wasting money on Rutta and a bunch of bottom 6 scrubs that we have in WBS.
He could've added 2-3 legit roster players and he added 0. Our team is weaker today than at the end of last season. |

Trade Kapanen for Puljujarvi yesterday. Find the cap space to sign Milano. |

The only thing that burns me about this offseason is not addressing goaltending. They needed someone who can challenge Jarry and actually stay healthy after being sunk by terrible goaltending 2 years in a row.
I really like the moves on D and while Rutta was a luxury signing, I like that we have someone really solid for the 3rd pair who can reduce workload on Petry and Letang and also provide some stability to either POJ or Smith who can definitely use it.
The picture right now is incomplete however. It's obvious that one of the D will go. I've been saying this for a while but POJ going to the Kings for one of their young forwards just makes too much sense not to happen. They need LD bad and they have more talented prospects than they can possibly give ice time to.
Lets go POJ, Kapanen and DeSmith for Kaliyev and Quick (1/2 retained). I'd love to try Kaliyev out with Rackell and Malkin. |

Kap, Rutta, DeSmith and Carter. All unforced errors. He could have spent that money soooo much better. |

If you want to throw Archi in there, that's 11.725m that could have gone toward a new backup and a top 6 forward.

He nickeled and dimed Malkin until the last minute... he had no problem giving too many years to all of those guys except DeSmith.
Hextall is hard to get a read on. Its weird to have a GM that doesnt literally say what he wants to do like Rutherford. Part of me likes he calm and collected he is, the other part of me hates how safe he plays it, especially given where we are at in the cycle. |

You fail to see management wanted someone to clear the net, with more size. Petry and Rutta can do that. - Barnaby36
I would rather just get a guy like Trouba that hurts people unapologetically. |

Rutta will be fine, he might be the best 5v5 option with Tanger.

Some of you are missing the point on Rutta. It has nothing to do with how good he will be. He was unnecessary.

Well, the management philosophy was to make D "bigger". Its not only to blame Dom. that we couldn't hold a 3goal lead vs. NYR. Kapanen on the other side really was unnecessary as his cap blocks any bottom6 options now.

Why would a RD that played 3rd pair mins in Tampa be the best option for the LD role on the top pair? |

That question (LD and his minutes - yet he played 1st pair with Hedman) is not unvalid, and we all hope Dumo will re-step up... yet it might be an (and even the best) option. Who else do you see there? |

I hope dumo just gets his game back but (assuming no fictional trades) I’d hope Poj can make it to 2nd pair duties by next year. Let dumo walk, then petts - tanger. Poj very sheltered by petry. Smith - any of the 3RD. |

i dont think the team shortchanged malkin at all. i think the 6 mil for 3 years is market rate, with the fourth clearly being a legacy/lifetime achievement award. its fine. that year wont matter anyway.
as everyone has said, its the fringe parts where they shoot themselves in the foot. |

When he played first pair with Hedman, Rutta was the RD, Hedman was the LD. I said earlier I wouldn't mind the signing if Rutta was a LD at least it would have made SOME sense if Dumo couldn't handle top 4 anymore and Petts needed to go first Pair and Rutta to 2nd pair. But it makes no sense as is. |
