That Esposito trade still irks me..... - mohel
As it should, Chief. |

I agree with Rick what's done is done. No point in crying over spilled milk. It's going to be a few years before we even see any semblance of a playoff team. |

Although how good would Seth Jones look on the Avs or any of these playoff teams, and how bad would any of those defenseman look on the Blackhawks. |

Using the outlier trade logic many use here for what our players are worth in trade, they would say Pit Martin is worth Phil Esposito. |

Why aren't teams beating down the door to trade for him right now? - Elbows15
Who's to say they haven't/don't want to. KD stated at the beginning of the offseason that he is not exploring anything with Toews, Kane, or Jones because they have full NMC's. If they come to him asking to be traded, then he would consider it.
Then you also have to consider what the Hawks would want back in return. With more and more teams holding tighter to their draft picks, maybe the ask is/would be too high.
As much as you can't stand him, the league is littered with highly/overpaid D-men for precisely the same reason Jones is. He puts up points.

Hamilton
Nurse
Spurgeon
Hughes
Burns
Heck, Makar wasn't paid because he shuts down the opposition.

I don't think that is a fair assessment and he didn't look that bad this year. Its less the player and term and more the cost of the trade that are a problem.
Jones it the okest 9.5 million dollar player in the league. He's certainly not bad but probably won't ever be great.
He's very good at puck retrieval and entering the zone. Not as good at 1v1 defending and denying entries. Eats lots of minutes.

Klingberg didn't misread the market except the teams that would be interested in signing him do not have the cap space to do it. Why do you think Kadri is still not signed. Because the teams with cap space (e.g. the Hawks) are asking for more to take on a bad salary (e.g. Van Rymsdyck) than the teams want to give. All Klingberg does for the Ducks is get them to the cap floor so they can flip him at the deadline. - LAHawk
Because they're players at or over 30 who log minutes and especially in Kadris game play hard.
You'd have to be desperate or crazy to give either of those two players 7 year contracts.
Jones will be 28 when his deal kicks in which would have been fine if they were actually competitive. The guy has a lot of miles and his biggest assets are feet and fitness. That ending at 36 is kind of bad. |

Then Lysiak hit the linesman and turned the NHL officials against the Blackhawks for all eternity. |

After watching the Canada Hlinka tourney team, there should be no tears if the Blackhawks don't win the first or second pick (and are not waiting for the Russian SKA-St. Peters-burg contract to finish) because defenseman Cam Allen (already better than Colorado's Bowen Byron was in his final junior draft year) is superb and more than four forwards who make me happy we are tanking already!
a few real nice USAprospects too...all of who I have already re-positioned on my 2023 mock draft with four solid rounds up....
https://www.lines.com/nhl/drafts/2023
These games are on NHL channel all week....
An add-on: this young Canadian team spent time with the 40 plus players in the World Junior U-20 group two weeks back and scrimmage against two separate broken up Canada U-20 groups...the kids of this team won one game and lost the other by a goal.
Believe if there idd a draft to have more than one first rounder and an early second, it is this upcoming 2023 Draft.
after this game was about 8-0 they put Cristabol Huet's kid in net, and he didn't stop the bleeding....it is 12-0 starting the 3rd period. |

Then Lysiak tripped the linesman and turned the NHL officials against the Blackhawks for all eternity. - scottak
Fixed it for you. And yeah there may have been some payback from officials for a while since old man Wirtz (1) supported Lysiak's appeal of the suspension in court (NHL on-ice officials were ready to walk if Lysiak wasn't suspended) and (2) the linesman, Ron Foyt was done officiating games soon after. Allegedly run out of the league by the old man himself.

It looks like the Hawks are signing Jalen Luypen to a 3 year entry-level contract. He had a solid season in Edmonton last year and could be 7th round steal. |

I heard cap space advanced stats were horrible last year. Great name though, I bet Don Cherry loves Cap Space, good Ontario boy. |

Not that Cherry would generalize or anything, but everyone on British Columbia are obviously pinko commies and Jalen Luypen‘s name sure sounds foriegn. |

What's done is done, but Head Scout Stanley not only gave him a top of the salary range deal for 8 years but blew out a top 10 draft pick and Bovquist too to make sure he got his man. Jarmo probably still hasn't wiped the smile off his face.
In addition, playing him 30 minutes a night won't make things any better no matter what the analytics say. Best solution is to pair him with a plodder who just looks after his own zone. It will keep Jones' minus number down. - RickJ
Late to the party but here is my $0.02.
1. The trade should not have been made.
2. When it’s all said and done, the Hawks most very likely lose this trade.
3. Jones is making about $2M too much and term is too long.
4. I have to disagree with some of you, but in my book Jones is a good hockey player. Not his fault that the Hawks gave up too much for him, or that the contract sucks.
5. Every team out there would take him.
6. Little brother needs to go, C Jones makes Gus look like Bobby Orr. |
