Leafs and Habs picked #1 recently too. That's the three biggest revenue generating teams in the league. |

Is Calgary better or worse after this off-season? I say A LOT worse. This Kadri signing seemed like a pure act of desperation and one they will regret very soon. - jd250
Slightly better, slighty worse, who knows until the puck drops.
The real point tho is... they were on the edge of the cliff and Treveling pulled off a series of VERY difficult moves to get things back on track.
Contrast that with Chuck, who's spent every last cent and wasted a bunch of draft picks turning a bubble team into a pathetic bottom feeder. |

It’s also a totally different market place currently with the cap. And Carter and Richards were both significantly younger. 26 and 30 is a huge discrepancy in hockey years. - ClaudeFather
Jeff Carter and Mike Richards also had insanely long deals that would have put them well through the age Couturier is now. If Couturier is the number 1 center many argue him to be and one of the elite two way centers in the league, there is value there for any contending team. |

Coots has a strong bounce back season, is in the Selke conversation and he will have value. There would be a way to trade him and get max value, even if you had to get creative to max the return.

The most frustrating thing about the current Flyers lineup and regime is that if everything goes right, they’ll finish with 88-90 points and both miss the playoffs and not have a chance at a top 2 pick. Finishing 9-10 in the East and 18-20 in the league is the worst thing that could happen. - BiggE
There is 0 chance they get 88-90 points playing in the East and particularly the Met...All goes well they are a 75 maybe 80 point team. They could easily be a sub 70 point team. |

No contending team will take that Risk until he shows he is healthy and productive. |

1. We can wait and see
2. Or we can argue about it till Oct.
I’m thinking folks here will be choosing #2 |

I'm not a fan of Chuck but have no problem with him not dealing JVR for the price that it would have taken. Now, most of his moves this summer..... - rayc16
Giving up a 1st rounder would have been very bad. Protected or not. Ironically, JVR could actually yield as asset or two at the TDL provided he’s healthy and is scoring. That appears to be about the only positive thing he did this summer. But hey, give credit when credit is due |

I like the coach hiring as well. Then that's about it. |

Do they normally cover stuff from competing media outlets to give them free traffic?
That being said, Im not sure they have ever covered anything from the Athletic. - MBFlyerfan

He certainly will play again. He never wanted to play in Philly. He will come back and get traded |

I’m seriously curious. If everything goes right do you actually think they get close to 88-90 points? I think if that’s the case they might hit 75 points. I see them in the 55-65 point range.
They suck. |

Did you talk to his wife?
So Ellis doesn't want to play in Philly so he figured he would sit out a full season and see what happens? Teams will be lined up to take that contract.

Something positive to look forward too for JVR!
Hope he is strong on the PP and resembles anything like a goal scorer who could benefit a team in the hunt.
Maybe there could be a small positive yield.
