😂 that is probably true, but I was referring to just his last few years as GM.

Holmgren did a ton of good for this franchise but his failure to adapt to the salary cap and adjust the methods that this organization uses in team building. As well as his continued influence today on how the team operates has done a ton of harm to this franchise.

Just one point among the issues, but I think it’s the most overarching…1. When developing prospects on entry level deals is such a big part of icing a competitive team within the salary cap limits, I continue to find it odd that the Flyers have chosen to fill the entirety of their right side defense with free agents or trade acquisitions. On average, teams have drafted 4-5 RHD within the first or second round of NHL drafts from 2005 to the present.

Saturday Morning Trivia—

1. How many RHD have the Flyers drafted in 1st/2nd rounds between 2005-present?
2. Which is the only other franchise with that same answer?

Answers:
1. Zero
2. The Kraken (drafting since 2021)

Notes: The Flyers do have Attard (drafted 3rd rd, 72nd overall in 2019) and Wylie (drafted 5th rd, 127th overall in 2018) in the pipeline with the Phantoms this season.
The Kraken haven’t taken a RHD with a high draft pick in their first few amateur drafts, but they did pick up 3 in the expansion draft: Larsson, Borgen, and Fleury. Since, on average, a team uses a higher draft pick on a RHD every 4 years, the Kraken still have time.
