I wish I was around to see that hockey game. Man I bet that was awesome!
That was when this franchise was on top of the world and everybody feared or respected the flyers...
Now this team can barely compete against some AHL teams and nobody fears playing against us

Times have changed

Bill what does your gut tell you in terms of Wade and Tanner making the team out of camp?

Ratcliff isn't here early working out?

Also do you think Cates is a lock?

Clarke fought plenty of his own battles, as the roadmap of scars on his face would attest.

I don't think Noah Cates is a lock but he has a definite inside track on a roster spot.

Gut instinct that, if the Flyers carry 13 forwards on the opening roster, that both Allison and Laczynski make the roster and either Patrick Brown or Zack MacEwen starts out as the 13th forward. However, Ratcliife is subject to waivers and both Allison and Laczynski are waiver-exempt so that could factor in as well.

Hope you are correct. I see it the other way. Both sent down because they are waiver exempt. Will make it easy for Chuck as imo it wont be based on play alone.

So do you think Ratcliff is on the outside looking in at this point?

Did you actually watch the series?

There was plenty of nonsense to go around.

How about this.. go watch all 8 games and get back to us. I have the dvd set if you need it.

We will wait for your comment after you complete all 8 games.

Times yours

I don’t see anyway that even the biggest crowbar could pry Patrick Brown or Zack MacEwan out of the starting lineup.

when the Flyers are negotiating contract, do they factor in if the player is not waiver exempt, like 1 way or 2 way or a couple extra 100 grand on the deal? Probably not?

I do believe that they do. All teams do. Which is why sometimes a player that they really want for depth that may not make the team outright, has a deal for example where the 2nd year will be a one way deal with a higher salary to try and use as a deterrent for a waiver claim from another team.

yes it would be a decision like this keeping macewen and brown over allison and laczynski which makes me not believe in this team.

I was in the Toronto area during the Summit Series. I remember how Leaf’s fans were absolutely bonkers over the way Clarke centered Henderson and Ellis, two Leaf wingers. Of course there was speculation that the Leafs would be able to obtain Clarke just because they wanted him. Leaf fans were arrogant even that far back. Can’t believe it’s been 50 years.

Heard some say that they won’t be watching the Beyond the Boards series. Well, I’m watching it. I like that behind the scenes stuff. How much other stuff from the team has been fun and enjoyable of late? I don’t plan to protest the any good stuff.

We’ll see. I don’t want to lose Ratcliffe on waivers. The numbers game is tough, but he has value if he gets an opportunity. It’s poor asset management in my mind.

Bobby Clarke. Now there’s a guy who hated to lose more than he loved to win. There ain’t many players like that anymore. It’s a business now. The greats feel that way. When was the last time a Flyer was truly a Flyer?

I think I understand what you are saying but I disagree that core guys of the last era like Simmonds, Voracek and Giroux were not truly Flyers. I think they were. The cup era was about more than it’s leader; it was a complete team and coach and organization identity with vision and purpose.

The organization from Homer in his final years to Hextall to Fletcher bear more of the blame for the lack of true Flyers than the players. Because without a vision, without a complete team and coaching all on the same page, it is impossible to be successful as individual players.

I understand. I have said it too. But if it happens a few months from now, I will probably still be just as mad. Maybe more so if his replacement is just a pacifier for angry fans, and we just keep getting more of the same.

G did not want to leave. He wanted an ex. Flyers wanted to go in another direction and did well to get 2 decent assets.

😂 that is probably true, but I was referring to just his last few years as GM.
