I'm on your side on occasion when everyone else is laughing at your comments, but in this instance you are totally clueless and the fact that you aren't from here means you know not what you speak of? They aren't on the radio? That comment right there tells me that you are totally ignorant to the subject. Perhaps you should do some research before babbling your nonsense. Thanks! - Phillywhiteout
My guess is he means they are not really talked about on sports radio. Not that the games aren’t broadcast. |

That is well , I can’t even describe. They really have the pulse of the fans.
Marketing people are doing a great job. - furio16
Its actually not their fault, ESPN/TNT have exclusive broadcast rights and can withhold local braodcast for exclusivity.....subs for espn+
way to go NHL |

Talk about a waste of on air space. I thank my lucky stars every day with the invention of satellite radio, so that I don't have to listen to that drivel. I think the listeners of those stations have the combined IQ of about 3 and that may be generous. |

Can they also release them to allow the flyers to broadcast it?
Can’t imagine the Flyers not having it on local tv. |

You can argue all you want as to whether Philly is a hockey town (it obviously is), but it sure as hell ain't a baseball town! Just saw a highlight of the Sillies game this evening and I think the Flyers will have more people at their first preseason game than the Sillies had tonight! |

I gotta disagree that philly is a great hockey city. Where? I’ve been there many times. They aren’t even on the radio. Flyers are only relevant there when they are good. Hardly a hockey city - Stayin alive Do yourself a favor and go check out the Flyers attendance and local TV ratings over the last 10 years. Yes, they've sucked that long, but their attendance and TV ratings just dropped off the last couple of years cause people finally got fed up. Thanks! |

Philly isn’t a hockey town. Flyers have their fans is all. They have always generally drawn well. Let’s see what this year brings attendance wise.
Hell the 5 years they missed the playoffs early 90s they sold out. Times have changed more options to spend your money. |

Poison free intentionally. - furio16 Where are you getting those indications son? I know many Flyers fans that are hockey fans including myself. I think that's yet another myth that rolls around Philly sports. And again, the fact that they are on national TV 13 times in a year where they are expected to suck tells me that the general public around the country still wants to see them despite the current regime turning them into the Titanic in the north Atlantic.

Yeah Comcast owning them has nothing to do with national games. Flyers hockey is back.
Philly isn’t a hockey town and never has been. They are Flyers fans. Most know very little outside the flyers bubble.

What the hell does Comcast owning them have to do with national games. Why would TNT/ESPN give a rat's ass about Comcast owning the Flyers? You may have had a point if they were still on NBC, but they aren't. Always been a hockey town and always will be despite how bad they have been. Could you imagine the Sillies or Sixas being bad for 10 years? They'd have to pay people to attend their games. Oh wait, the Sixas already did that 5 years ago when they sucked. Thanks! |

Being on national tv has nothing to do with Philly being a hockey town. Flyers are a popular team outside of Philly. Still a brand name to some extent.
These same dopes who still push the BSB and other old cliches think they will get people to watch. My guess is I bet they are not on national tv the 13 times you say they are when all is said and done.
Not a hockey town. Accept it son. |

And you're trying to insinuate that they are on national TV 13 times in the years 2022/23 cause of the BSB's in the 1970's? Yeah right! PHILLY IS A HOCKEY TOWN and it's known throughout the land! Accept it son. Thanks again! |

Would you like to wager they won’t be on national tv 13 times?
Does the national media and tv still push the fake BSB narrative and the Flyers are tough team? Yes or no.
As i said they are still a known. brand. That is why they get tv time. Figure it out. |

No I get it philly has a lot of fans. It’s a city of what 3/4 million. They always have strong presence on road too. All I’m saying is I’ve been to philly many many times to visit and watch many games. Surely there’s a lot of flyer fans but a hockey city? What tournaments are ever there? What events hockey related? The radio comment is true. What station has any hockey talk? Ever? I seriously would like to know. I’d tune in. I haven’t really heard hockey talk on radio outside of long playoff run since lindros era. I don’t see strong flyers presence downtown or any area I visit. The occasional person with flyers gear on. Chiclets cup was just here in buffalo. World jrs here a few years ago. Combine been held here almost yearly recently hockey show on radio daily even in off season I’m in a hockey city. Maybe we have different definitions? I’m not saying philly doesn’t have a big fan base. A city that size with its history surely will. Buffalo is a hockey city. Toronto is. Montreal is. Etc. philly imo is dying hockey team city. Only the die hards care about the team anymore. I’m seriously curious to where the strong hockey presence is in Philly? South Philly? |

To answer your second question the answer is a big fat NO! The national media does not still push the BSB narrative. The only people that still push that narrative is the archaic Canadian national media that is still living in the 1970's. They are a known brand in this country cause of their past successes and the fact that Philly is known as a rabid hockey market. Are we done yet?

I kinda agree. Philly talk radio is HORRIBLE. It’s not a knock on them personally but there’s so much better hockey radio shows on apps and most national show blow. IMO. I wasn’t saying talk radio alone makes a city a hockey city I was just pointing out the flyers are never on philly airwaves. The only radio for flyers is podcast and most of those are homers still defending the team which just makes it almost unlistenable. |

Etc. philly imo is dying hockey team city. Only the die hards care about the team anymore. I’m seriously curious to where the strong hockey presence is in Philly? South Philly? - Stayin alive I think you hit the nail on the head. We probably have different definitions of a hockey town. Philly did have the final 4 of the NCAA several years back, but yeah, not much compared to Buffalo. However, Buffalo looked like Florida this past season as far as attendance was concerned. Another difference in those two cities is the fact that Buffalo only has two pro sports teams. Of course, I'm not going to try and compare Philly hockey wise to cities like Toronto or Montreal cause that would be silly.
The other stuff is pretty easy to answer. It's a pretty well known fact around these parts that most Flyers fans live OUTSIDE of the city limits. I live in a town 25 miles west of Philly (West Chester) and we have four hockey rinks in this town alone. Those rinks are always busy and they turn them into roller hockey rinks in the summer. Out here you will see lots of Flyers license plates and Flyers apparel. Only the Eagles have a bigger presence out here as far as merchandise is concerned. The reason that you would hear almost no hockey talk on those dreaded talk radio stations is cause most of the people employed by those stations are city dwellers that never played hockey and know very little about the sport. That's why they always talk about the Eagles and Sixas. They drive the talk for their agendas and hockey people aren't gonna call into those shows cause they know that they are mostly ignorant to the sport. |
