Topi better - BINGO!
Minten better...probably...more useful soon for sure.
Robertson hasn't really shown me anything that screams NHL. Was hoping for a Caulfield type player and feel like we have ended up with a Malgin 2.0...with maybe a better shot. JMHO.
Little 4th liners are a hockey oxymoron to me and I don't see Robertson in the top 9. |

Topi better - BINGO!
Read that Topi has been taken off his Liga team PP and is being asked to play a more defensive game. He’s still on top PK but has been moved to second pairing. |

The Soo is pretty far north in Ontario perhaps that was meant. It's about an 8 hr drive from Toronto in good weather.

From last blog-
Hockey news article about Dubas
4. He's borderline likable.
But beyond all this mish-mash, the Maple Leafs' generalissimo has survived one of the dumbest moves in Toronto hockey history -- the absurdly expensive signing of John Tavares.
First, we must dispense with the fact that Honest John is a genuinely good guy who, more often than not, means well. Unfortunately, none of that Boy Scout stuff gets his club past the first playoff round.
The fact is that Tavares never was a superstar on Long Island and it's even debatable how good a captain he was at the time.
Good, by the way, is not to be confused with great.
So what Dubas has is a player who isn't worth half the salary he's getting; who the Islanders did very well without; thank you.
Dubas wasted a ton of Larry Tanenbaum's good money on the Captain, disrupted his salary cap, and is stuck with Johnny Pyjamas - mr.sir
This might be the single stupidest thing I've read.

Kadri is a far better skater than JT ever was. Which is why JT is not going to last as long in the league. - TurdFergeson
Speed was never a part of Tavares' game, which is why he'll remain a very good player long into his career. |

Holy smokes... that's like LA to Frisco... damn... that can't be any fun kind of bus ride.. or maybe it is... party bus..
- dozerD10
Could be worse.
Toronto to Thunder Bay is about 15 hours.
Toronto to Kenora (still in Ontario - population 15,000, and one more Stanley Cup victory than Buffalo) is about 20 hours.
And that's with perfect weather, which you absolutely will not have, ever.
Edit: I'm just commenting on the vastness of geography of Ontario - neither Thunder Bay nor Kenora have OHL teams. |

Since he joined the Leafs, Tavares is 23rd in the NHL in scoring over that time - behind these guys: Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Huberdeau, Nathan MacKinnon, Artemi Panarin, Brad Marchand, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Johnny Gaudreau, Steven Stamkos, Aleksander Barkov, David Pastrnak, Sidney Crosby, Mark Scheifele, Alex Ovechkin, Sebastian Aho, Mikko Rantanen, Matthew Tkachuk, Nikita Kucherov, Kyle Connor and Mika Zibanejad.
With regards to his $11m salary - almost all of the names in that list are making or deserve to be making at least $10m. |

All true. I drove from Barrie to Winnipeg once.
I'll never do that again BUT the drive between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay was very nice.

It's a city that is very 'small town' like. Everyone knows everyone & if your not from there you are from 'down south' and automatically considered a bum hole until you prove differently.

Having a sister live in TO proper.. is one thing.. .but as a SoCal'er.. .that border region around the great lakes and areas E is something that I'd not mind a summer driving around.. Quaint, friendly very unique and different area of both countries.

Odds are, he'll still be a very effective players in the last 3 years of his deal.
Yes, he'll be overpaid for the 2nd half of his contract, but signing Tavares wasn't the mistake some are trying to make it.

You sign JT at 11M until he is 34
You do not sign Mikheyev at 4.75M until he is 32, Hyman at 5M until he is 35, Nuge at 5.25M until he is 37.
Those are risk for mistakes, ones that I am happy Dubas does not make.

Mikheyev until 32 isn't bad, it's the money involved that's a little much.
Hyman will probably turn into a mistake eventually I agree.
Nugent-Hopkins is actually a very good contract in my book. |
