I fell like he's the only GM who would do it given how off the pace Ratcliffe has looked so far, but the Pens already have a full roster so I dunno if they have room for Ratcliffe. - Feanor
speaking of off the pace...Deslaurier was skating with cement in his pants. Couldn't rotate on the PK...slow to cover the point. Either he came into camp out of shape or he is getting to the dead leg age, Either way this signing is looking as bad as we all thought. |

Every loss, brings us one step closer to men who have no business representing this team finally being cast aside.
To use a play on popular modern phrase, “not my Flyers”.
Let those who support them, enjoy it.
- FlyerFan3260
And Bedard!
Unfortunately the Black Hawks are going to be worse, which is hard to imagine after what we've witnessed with this team the last 2+ seasons. We have to hope the Hawks don't win the lottery, which is not saying much when the worst team has approx. 80% chance. |

No idea what Ristolainen was doing on that turnover leading to the third goal. Still in shock Chuck gave up multiple picks and $5 mil against the cap for this guy. - TobyFlenderson
That's not even the worse part. He just got a 5 year deal. Just abysmal.

You are deliberately distorting what I said. I did say Risto's development was harmed by being in Buffalo, BUT I never said he would blossom here. What I did say was to give him a chance to blossom here under what I thought would be a more stable situation. Of course, its been anything but stable in Philly over the past 2 seasons. Still, I can't see Tort's getting fired in the next couple of seasons, so the way I see it, this is Risto's last chance. So if you want to keep embarrassing yourself, be my guest, but this is the last I will post on this topic. - jd250
Thank you for agreeing with me |

Braun needs his minutes limited to be effective. I think this coaching staff will have the tunnel vision on certain players. Nothing wrong with trying diff combos. They seem intent no matter what to force Ivan and Tony D as a top pair.
How embarrassing for the GM to see Risto on the 3rd pair if that happens. Will also be interesting to see if the coach benches Risto at any point. - furio16
If York gets stuck paired with Risto, it's going to be a career killer, which will be a tragedy. That kid has the potential to be a rock solid d man.

I have never seen a more invisible and irrelevant vice president in my lifetime.
Only good thing is she has shown herself to being incompetent. Which will pretty much ensure she will never be elected president. |

If they do the unthinkable and fire Chuck, there should be a long search of interviews with execs from Colorado, TB, Carolina, Florida, etc. They shouldn't just give Briere the job because he was interviewed by Montreal that one time and took night classes at Penn (and yes I realize his job is way more involved now and basically ran the ECHL team a couple of years ago, I'm being facetious).
But, this is the Flyers, and you're probably right. Fletcher will get the Holmgren treatment and Briere will move right into his position without incident. - TobyFlenderson
It doesn’t matter who they get. Unless they fully commit to a rebuild of whole organization top to bottom and accept it will take damn near a decade nothing will change.
That includes fort and his 4 year contract. If torts isn’t gonna be here longer to see full rebuild might as well get rid of him too.
Basically think of this team as an expansion team. Hire a gm and coach and just tell the fan base ripping it down to core.
People will get behind it. They see this poopshow has zero chance of ever working and is just getting worse by the day and prolonging the inevitable.
Except mjl of course who still thinks 30 year old coots 8 more years as fake 1c is great idea |

Cool story, bro.
Did you hear the one about the phony tough guy Governor down in Florida suddenly begging for a federal bailout of his doomed state? The same guy who voted against federal assistance for the victims of Hurricane Sandy in NY and NJ. |

I fully expect this team to lose a lot of games. i honestly don't care. Well i do but i don't. just want to see young players play well and move towards turning this organization around. but as far as the 4 goals in 3 games stuff according to what has been reported Tortorella hasn't even begun working on systems. I would hope a full lineup with time to work on what he wants to get done will at least make the product better. |

The other side of that is if being paired with a bad d man kills your career, he may be too fragile mentally to thrive in the NHL. A future solid d man doesn’t make excuses or let anyone else kill his career. You may be underestimating York.

Without a doubt. My expectation is that Fletcher gets “promoted” and Briere is the new GM. That’s it, and nothing will change. - BiggE
Just curious by why are so many people already against danny briere?
He has got to be able to do a better job than fleece me feltcher, right?
Maybe he still has that clutch instinct in him and he will save us? |

Fair enough, I like the optimism. But if a guy like Risto needs a rookie to raise his play up, does not say much for him.
I do think York is better than just competent, and could be a leader on this team. All I meant was, when you play defense in this game, one d man has one side and the other dman has the other. One guy cannot control what happens on the other side of the ice. He can take the lead on breakouts, clears etc. to help cover for a weak player, but the weak player still has to cover the area he's responsible for. In other words, you can only control what you can control. |

Looks like the opposite of the 80s Oilers. No creativity, Claudes playmaking will be missed, flyers D will give up 2 easy. And i see this team hard-pressed to score more than 2 on a nightly basis. - THE EVIL WITHIN

Hextall can't resist scooping up former draft picks to try to show that everyone else is wrong and he is in fact the smartest person in the room. He will grab Ratcliff and try to show his drafting was fine and that the Flyers just can't develop players. - jd250
As far as I know, it's been twice unless I'm missing something.
Friedman who worked out as a 7th defensemen for them last year.
St. Ivany, which maybe nothing more than to add to their weak system.
Ratcliffe, I believe, would have to stay on the NHL roster if claimed. I don't see it happening. |

Provorov did not look like the best overall D on the roster last night. Or last season. And Risto had two horrible turnovers along the wall, continuing his career long habit of making egregious unforced errors.
I actually think the best way to set up the D would be
Sanheim-DeAngelo
Provorov-Braun
York-Risto - Feanor
What would be the difference from last season?

Risto has 10 years of bad defensive results that indicate the less minutes he gets, the better. Paying $5.1m for a rd pairing dman is dumb, but we have a dumb GM, so what can you do.
Sanheim has been outplaying Provorov for a full year now. - Feanor

Well, look at the other pairs. He’s suggesting that Braun and Provy be deployed as the second pairing instead of the first |
