I guess I'm surprised so many don't see Barzal as a $9m/yr player in this league. I think any team in need of a 1C would gladly pay that for him, and, frankly, I'd take Barzal over quite a few centers out there who are making from $9.5m/yr to $11m.
I guess if you're just looking at point totals, that explains it. But the Isles are...well...sort of unique with how they approach the whole offense thing. Just like goalies get an "Islander bump" to their stats because of the system the team plays, I think forwards get somewhat of an "Islander penalty." - UIF
A player making that kind of scratch, is player that should be a consist difference maker. Someone who can put the team on their back. I am not convinced yet that Barzal is that player. Brock Nelson was able to set a career high in points. Elite players find a way.

My guess is you are a troll, but I am curious to what you think he is worth. He has won the fastest skater in the league, he was fantastic on Team Canada, He is by far the best player on the Isles and as the 1C has taken them to the ECF twice .. which is a lot further than teams paying their 1C a LOT more has gotten.... He did this with Leo Komarov on his wing... and he is 25. So what do you think He's worth?
(I can't wait to see the $5 mill a year tops idiotic reply).

He has won the fastest skater in the league.
Means nothing...Do you remember Randy Wood? Fast as lighting with stone hands.
He was fantastic on Team Canada.
Means nothing...He was not the No.1 Center
Don't get me wrong Barzal is very good but he should be at 8.25 max over 5 years max.
I get why the isles did what they did, but to say he is a legit #1...I cannot agree. Three things 2 way center, scoring and faceoffs. All of which he falls short on. Is he dynamic yes but he fails short in those major categories. |

Fire Magical Lou he’s terrible !
Your 5 year 8.25 deal will:
A) Wind up costing you more to keep Barzal
B) Lose him to FA at 30 or sign him then to a 8 year 9 or more million dollar deal.
This deal ties him up for 9 million until he’s 34 and takes him out of the FA market. This is a win for both player and team and when the Cap is $88 million in a few years Barzal’s $9 million will be a bargain. |

Caught end of the game. I thought Raty was assigned to AHL. Is there a chance he gets a look in regular season! |

Agree Streaks, kid doesn’t look that out of place but you have to think he goes to Bridgeport to play major minutes in all situations. Just better for his overall development. If there’s a situation where a call up is needed, you have to think his number will be called.
Watching tonight’s game you have to think Salo gets the 6th spot. Looks quick and confident with the puck. |

I didn’t get to see much of the gsme but I agree on Salo. Just confused about Raty’s status. I thought he was assigned but he was playing tonight. Regardless, I think he’s gonna be legit I’m not too distant future. |

Casey left practice with an issue so I think that’s why Raty stayed. I agree on him, he will get his chance soon. This team has depth at center and they want him to play down the middle. Which is good. They feel he has the game to play the position in the NHL. Tough to crack right now. Interested to see what he does in BP this year. |

I get why the isles did it. Hopefully I am wrong about Barzal and he becomes the player the fans expect him to be. I just do not believe he is a #1 center. I said it when Tavares left.

Say what you want about Lou but he doesn't overpay. The reason we don't have Johnny G and/or Kadri is b/c he doesn't overpay. If he is willing to pay Barzal 9.1 mill.... then my guess is it will be looked at as a great contract in a year or 2.

he and Holmstrom were about to leave for B-port and they "recalled" them to play in game.

I would be very shocked if Bellows makes the team out of camp. Raty and Nicky were much better all camp. |

no He didn't.. but you and Chief did so it must be true.
This is what he actually said..
“Lou Lamoirello said the @NYIslanders looked at ‘many different options’ in the UFA market but that “the price you have to pay to upgrade at one position” could end up downgrading the team in another position.”
Meaning he COULD clear cap space, but he wasn't sure it would make the team better by trading Varly, Beau, and whoever else to do it. |

Which is pretty much the definition of "can't clear cap space"
If you have to lose valuable assets for a diminished return and doing so might make you worse....you kinda...."can't clear cap space" |

Jesus
A bit feisty this morning.
He said he wasn’t willing to pay the price it would take to move cap space. Could he have yeah sure but he wasn’t willing to give up a first. |

no, actually "Can't clear space" means you "Can't clear space".
I would rather not b/c I like having a good goalie tandem and don't want to lose a couple of young kids that may still be studs.. is vastly different. He still offered Johnny G $9 mill AAV. He just wasn't willing to go higher than that number. |
