Dude stinks.

Effort level is only there like 2/3rds of the time.

- BINGO!

Which is kind of harsh considering he is a type 1 diabetic- and diabetes is all about energy levels. And the above can/does happen with all diabetics. Not saying it is not possible, just to be as per you say Bingo- but I'd also make sure I looked into that fully before declaring that. I don't assume anything anymore - not after nearly everyone in the Hawks front office or associated with it got made to move on by the league -as being you'd expect better from organisations to look after their people ---like chronic disease management ... but - well frankly I don't).

Max is what Max is - and management of that is a pretty tough deal for anyone - even tougher for a professional athlete.

Beaudin, Sikura, et al cleared waivers today.

Sikura scored 30 + goals last year in AHL. Retain him for Rockford

One thing stands out in this - and it might be a key (it would be for me - but I am not a Type 1) ...

About mid-way through there was this statement:

"Just because I’m a diabetic doesn’t mean I can’t have sugar. I actually probably have more sugar than you all combined, because when you go low you’re looking for any sugar, whether that’s a bag of Skittles or a Gatorade or a juice box, or whatever it might be. I have that pretty frequently just to keep my blood sugar up. So that’s kind of a myth. But that being said, everything in moderation, right?..."

Ok- with some diabetics- this is messed up thinking - not because it is sugar - but more so because it is high GI carbohydrates -- means it's impact burns off FAST - like a hit of nitrous for car fuel -and that is definitely not what you would do in playing. How do I know???? Because I did it - one shift your fine - next one boom - if feels (more or less literally) like you are slogging through setting cement.

You need stuff that is slower release carbs to play -like multi-grain seeded bread, muesli with a ton of nuts, dried fruits -stuff like that - stuff that will keep you to a particular level for an extended period of time.

Definitely for a diabetic all carbs are not the same type/impact. That was something I found pretty lacking in the US -there wasn't really that level of info available.

So who knows - but it might be more than 'compete' levels.

Bobby Clarke was diabetic during his playing days. Used to eat chocolate bars on the bench to keep his sugars up.

Had to have a can of Coke in the room between periods as well.

Is there a silver lining in the Blackhawks season - something positive comes out of a dreadful record?

Consider this; what is your best expectation for these defensemen given their opportunity and ability in Richardson's system:

Mitchell
Vlasic
Regula
Galvas

I like the ability of farmhands Phillips and Crevier; they need to develop at the AHL level

My hope of course is to see the foursome above have a strong rookie season. But the next two blueliners to impact (more?) could very well be Kaiser and Korchinski

Seth Jones may be the only holdover after two years with promising dmen both here and on the horizon

Unfortunately, Mitchell got injured before he even got started. I hope he is able to come back and show well, because I like what he “should” bring to the lineup. I think in a simplified system like this he could thrive.

The rest, I want to see them get consistent time with semi consistent partners to see if they can settle in. I think Vlasic can be a solid shut down player, and Regula has a slightly higher ceiling than that. I have no idea about Galvas. Plays a clam game, which they need more of, but does he do anything particularly well?

The thing that worries me about the defense, is you can have a better system, better talent, but if you cannot mount a modicum of offense, and your opponent consistently has the puck, you can have a defense full of all stars and a Vezina caliber goaltender, and eventually that defense is still going to break.

I think that is why Davidson decided he is going to leave the kids in Rockford, once (and if Murphy, McCabe, and C. Jones are healthy). In order for the Hawks to win (although the organization at the top is looking to tank, the players and coaches are trying to win), the defense is going to have to be near perfect, Hawks offense is going to be a challenge to say the least. I think KD wants to give them a chance to develop in a winning atmosphere.

Hopefully we can see some of the kids after the TDL, but that would mean McCabe, Murphy, J. Johnson and C. Jones play well enough (and stay injury free enough), that KD can offload them.

Ehhhhh, Seabrook and Keith got beat up their first year for sure. Kyle Calder was the leading scorer lol.

Sharp was on that team and playing full time, getting beat up. They suffered through two very very bad years and that didn't have a whole lot of impact on the end result.

They were not good in 06-07 except they did have Havlat which was an improvement.

7-08 was fun with Toews and Kane and them being back on TV.

Anyway - the players that are good enough for the NHL should be playing there since it takes about 2 years for them to figure it out. Certainly the talent boost helped him but Sharp's first two years he was just an okish fast guy who could score shorties, his third and when Toews and Kane showed up was huge for him.

Keith's first two years were not very good. Of course the athlete was there but it took him NHL games to calm down and figure it out.

Seabrook looked like a pro from day one. Really tremendous player when he was healthy. Too bad he fell apart the way he did.

If they think Reichel is a NHL player he should be in the league getting his reps. So by the time the lottery pick shows up - some of these guys are ready to take the next step and the 5 year timeline becomes more realistic. If literally none of the last regimes players are NHL calibre then that pushes things closer to 7 or 8 years.

At this stage they're just putting off the inevitable. Either the kid is a player or he isn't and this nonsense is going to mess with his mental state more than getting beat up by NHL players.

That being said telling K2 to go back to juniors and lead the league in scoring is the correct approach. He should come back to camp next year confident with some swagger and ready to play in the NHL. That approach with Del Mastro was correct as well since he just started to figure out his game and has an opportunity to own the league and take the next step knowing the level he can perform at.
